It just seemed to me the heart of asking this question was to find out if the people on this board are fair-minded or not. I'm not sure there's a way to quantify that.

What is your definition of "fair minded". Splitting the ticket doesn't mean
your fair minded. Like some poster said, if I don't know the candidates I vote

Absolutely nothing. Like Darrin said, it's hard to quantify "fair-mindedness". If you are a Republican, you can be receptive to a Democrats' arguments and still vote for Republicans simply because you agree with their message. You would be fair-minded, but still voting straight ticket.

I think that is a fair statement. As I said, I tend to vote democrat if it is a close decision but I've never voted for republican for president.

....and to answer the thread's question:

I have voted for Reps, Dems and Independents.
For state and local issues, I like to do a little research with the League of Women Voters' essays. (they send in questionaires to candidates of both parties and publish the responses) I rarely vote for someone if they don't take the time to respond.

BUT

given no information other than party affiliation these days, I would vote for a Democrat. The GOP has really soured me on how they have handled a range of issues. I am one of those fiscally conservative, socially liberal types and the deficits that the GOP has run up has been a betrayal of what I liked about them.
