what the spurs or any nba team is concerned with and what their fans are concerned with are usually totally different things.
You're either an idiot or a big time homer. Unless the mavs are unhealthy, they have the potential to knock off the spurs. Whether that happens or not is the unknown. No other team in the west has a chance. The mavs are right there with the pistons and spurs. They just need to get Howard and Harris back and hopefully be a factor when the playoffs start.

ok, let's be realistic here, with Amare probably out for the rest of the season and Nash has a recurring injury(ankle?), Dallas is team i consider as a threat to Spurs.
But if you win #1 spot in the West and if by any chance you face the Lakers in the 1st round, do you believe you had the best chance of continuing your quest for that le?

The Spurs esp. Pops didn't care much about seedings right now(same as last yr, Suns was #1). And the Lakers most teams would definitely want to avoid come playoff time bec of PhilJackson & Kobe. And you lost 2 already to them. You'd win #1, your reward is the Lakers.
HCA is good but I think Pops is considering a seedling which gives the Spurs least headache come playoff time. Of course I didn't say we can't win over the Lakers in the playoffs but based on their playoff experience & Kobe, I'd rather have the Hornets or Denver.
What the does the past have to do with this season? Dallas is so much better with their continuous improvement of their young players. Duncan with PF so I don't see it as impossible to beat San Antonio like you do.

I called you a homer because you are totally discrediting what Dallas has done so far this year like things are exactly the same. If you don't see the statistical improvement of those players than you are blind also.

Are you some fortune teller? Yes if the spurs played the mavs now with the injuries the spurs would win. But if the mavs are healthy and Duncan continues to have problems with PF the mavs have a 'chance' to win the series. I have no problem with the fact on the past but I disagree that just because it happened before means it will happen theory with the mavs and spurs. Dirk has the most help he has ever had offensively and defensively.

If the Spurs are focused on staying ahead of the Mavs or the Pistons or both, all they can do is win their own games. They can't control the other teams' losses. So what does this thread even mean?!?!

Looks about the same to me. All is as it should be.
Look at the pistons experiences before knocking off the lakers in 5 games. I think the mavs have deepest and most talented team in the league. Maybe they lack a low post prescence and aren't as focused on defense as the spurs but this years team is for real.
I still think it's about who is healthy. Is 1st place important? Yes...
If it important enough to bang up your team and blow your peak? No.
Remember how long our season was last year so other teams besides Det are
more rested. Not to mention some of our players where playing all Summer.

Nothing we say here will have any affect on anything. I made this thread for people who already are scoreboard watching to see how the Mavs did that day. My point is simply, stop keeping an eye on the Mavs. The team that really matters is the Pistons.
