That is an interesting article.
The home locker room at the Toyota Center is 35,000 square feet!![]()
Although the interior colors are nice, the AT&T Center looks like a big barn on the outside and should have been built downtown. There is nothing visually aesthetic about it.
there would be tremendous crowd support regardless of the arena for the kings. it's not like people in Sac town have anything else to do. reminds me of another team... i kid, i kid...
You should spend a weekend in Downtown SA. It may be a one-horse town, but it draws a big carriage.
ok first of all, the maloofs dont want to replace it, they're being FORCED to replace it by the NBA. downtown sac is growing rapidly so i wouldnt be surprised to see an arena there.
totally agree!!!
I don't doubt it. if i lived in san antonio, i'd be a big spurs fan too. those other SA teams. (do you guys at least have a good AAA baseball team, some of them are pretty fun to watch?)
Yeah 8 mile is a great place to visit too. Do you want to see where Eminems buddy got shot or where Bob Horry shot that game 5 three over the runner up Pistons?
I believe it intentionally looked like a barn because of the rodeo, right?
Hummm...I've never heard that. I think it was to keep the price down. Remember that the Spurs had to stay within the county budget or pay the cost over-runs out of pocket.
If you read the article (I can't, it's already 1:30 am. in the friggin' morning!) you learned that Arco was built on the fly for about 40 million. Before that games were played in a makeshift arena that only housed about 10,000 and is now an office building.
It is the second oldest arena still being used and yes, the guest accommodations are embarrassing. Maybe this is where we got the nickname "cow town" from. We really don't have cows!
I don't think the location is the problem, in fact it is quite easily accessible and traffic is very manageable. There is expansion going on all around the arena, soon it will blend in with the landscape, but who cares?
I think the main problem is it's age. There were studies done by architects, etc. recently and the report is the building is only good for about five more years without major, MAJOR overhaul. There have been appeals made to the city to help pay for a new arena, but for some reason there have been roadblocks. I think the city is asking Maloof's to pay more than a fair share. I personally believe someone will step and write a check, a community leader maybe. There are a few out there who can.
A new arena idea is at an impasse right now. We just need some money.
The Maloof's own the Palms Casino in Las Vegas and have an interest in glitz, I think they would like to see "their" team dressed in something pretty, and the boxes would be good for business in more ways than just paying the electric bill. They need boxes to make friends and make more friends...you get the idea. They are businessmen. They need luxury boxes to invite their friends to!
Which reminds me, do you guys hear Gavin whistling at AT&T Center when your guys are at the line? You can't miss it! They are our biggest fans, kind of like Mark Cuban but more sophisticated (just slightly). They are great.
I don't know if I can call them big fans.
They were pissed off and walked out of Game 1 in the middle of the 3rd quarter. I thought that was pretty pathetic.
Well good for them, they beat me by about 5 minutes.
There was dirty grout in a bathroom calling my name.![]()
Yes, Kori...obviously you were paying attention when they were building the place.![]()
AAA, no...AA yes. SA Missions.
Las Vegas Kings has a ring to it, they can change their logo to a card
Miss USA:
Maybe the Tsakopoulos' (sic) or the Spanos family can make big contributions, but I think Mr. Spanos put in money to build the STockton Arena so his cashflow might be tight. To all people across the country, the state passed a Proposition a few years ago that requires a two-thirds vote of the people for taxes to be assess for anything. That is why the issue of taxpayer finance is being bogged down.
seems like one could design a building with lots of boxes but still noisy
You stupid , look at you now. You cheer for the Lions? the Lions and Detroit.
