Honest question aimed at Kings fans...
Why do the Maloofs want to get rid of it? Everyone raves about the HCA and the collegiate atmosphere. Seems like a pretty big advantage to me.

Yes, everyone in the arena is related...CLOSELY.
My guess is that the amenities (lux boxes) are scant. Believe me: the Maloofs will put up with a LOT less noise for a LOT more money. It's all about the Benjamins.
I'm just guessing, but I'd think it's probably not the cash cow that most other NBA arenas are. It's relatively small and has very few luxury boxes, which is the big ticket item for any owner. I would assume that there would be enough corporate interest to support more boxes in a bigger and newer arena.
The lux boxes are a huge cash cow...the upper/lower suites like at the SBC are the latest rage and everyone wants them. They also make a fortune on concessions there. Average food/beverage tab on a suite is probably five grand and that is just for "cheap" stuff like fajitas.
Well, duh.
But it looks like a little easy research helped me answer my own question. Beyond the obvious, apparently it doesn't have a great configuration for switching around between multiple events. Its ice-making capabilities are deficient, its roof leaks, and the walkways are cramped. Though I've never been, this report suggets Arco was just poorly planned in general.

I wonder if the city is really in danger of losing the team ( ooo, Vegas) or if the Maloofs are just trying to gain leverage and aren't really serious about re-locating.
I want to see a game there before it's replaced. I'm still pissed Sac lost to Dallas in 2003, because I would have def went to the road games of the WCF if they were in Sac that year.
Agreed. Despite our current situation with their team, I'm glad the Kings are showing signs of being pretty compe ive for the next few years. If that place is as raucous as everyone says it is, it would be a shame for those fans to languish with a losing club.
I've been going to concerts, fight and games there for years. There really isn't a bad seat in the house. Luxury boxes are lacking and that would be the main reason to replace it. It's also way out by the airport and the Maloofs want to set something up downtown like in San Antonio. There have been huge spreads in the paper here about the riverwalk and how the city would like to build a downtown scene like that. I think it's a cool arena just a bit outdated.
The AT&T is not in downtown SA.
Who said anything incorrect in this thread?
The arena needs to be upgraded to include a lot more luxury boxes and suites or they have to move to a new one. Same thing in Seattle.
They should burn it down after Friday.![]()
no... "its all about the hamiltons, baby"(SNL reference)
not that ATT is beautiful...but look at it

I've been in Sac for over 20 years and know a little about what I'm talking about. Natomas isn't in the middle of nowhere anymore. They built about 40,000 houses out there in the last few years. I've never had a problem there either and it's close enough to all the freeways to get out of there pretty quick. Good location just outdated.

Where are all the responses from the Sac Fans? Bueller? Bueller?
Hey, Sacramento. That's all i has to say...
"How'm I gonna get a scar like that eating pussy? "
Kings fan are real quiet today, I work in a room full of them. They know whats coming, they get their little hearts ripped out every year about this time.
Kings... i'm the only King here mayne. Believe it.
"I'm Tony Montana! You with me, you in' with the best!"
Thanks, all. Informative responses.
For you Sacramento guys, what do you think the odds are of a new arena going up in the next few years?
Oh, and I found this article in the Sac Bee about this subject, for those who are interested...

Pretty good read, I think, because it shows a side-by-side of Arco vs. some of the new arenas, including our own SBC...errr AT&T Center.
I know many of you don't like the site...but http://www.kingsfans.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=18
Are Kings fans worried about losing that Arco advantage with a new building?
My take on the situation is of course the issue of luxury boxes. When I watched a SPurs-Kings game from one box a few years ago, it was pretty cramped. It had a TV, a private restroom and room for about six people. It is spartan by today's standards. I guess too that with the explosion of housing in the Natomas area, they might want to raze it to get more houses in there. Of course the dummies are building them in a flood plain, but hey they are pretty darn cool houses!!
