Spurs take a tight one in Game 4 and is the series over then with them headed back to SA for Game 5?
They didn't look too good in Game 2 and that was with their anchor put on the shelf for half of the 2nd quarter. Tonight was a different story. Unless AJ can pull something else out of his bag of tricks nothing is a given in this series. I'm really surprised by the assumption that this series has been decided. The Spurs showed tonight that they can handle the Mavs' major "adjustment". I'd be much more concerned if we saw a repeat of Game 2. Of course, we didn't, since Duncan wasn't taken out of the game until the end on a rather questionable call. Those are the breaks, but I'm not really seeing the basis for the Mavs fans looking ahead to the Finals or the Spurs fans writing this series epitaph already.

Since everyone loves to call out Manu now, I'd just like to point out that Tony played like total crap once again. 6-16 FG? WTF. Whoever he was supposed to guard went by him repeatedly like he wasn't even there, and he managed a whopping 4 assists despite having the ball in hands for 38 minutes. In 3 games now our Point Guard hasn't TOTALED 10 assists yet.
And on the last play, he could have gotten his ass in front of Dirk easily and at least tried to get the rebound. He could have gotten position and maybe drawn an over the back call. He didn't even try to get the rebound even though HE WAS RIGHT THERE. He just stood to the side and watched Dirk get it and get fouled. And every time Duncan got a foul call on him it was after somebody blew by Parker, usually Dirk.
This game is all on Pop and his ridiculous small lineup, Horry for doing nothing, and Tony. And Nazr might have set a new low for worst 1 minute stint of basketball. The only thing he didn't do was injure a teammate.
I just don't understand Pop's lineup at the end there with 17 secs. Horry, Manu, Tony, Fin, and Brent. Who the was he expecting to get the defensive rebound? Just a stupid, stupid lineup. It's like he conceded that the refs were going to rebound or get fouled, so he put a miracle steal lineup on the floor.
we need to get rid of him for a real pg
The only way the Mavs win is with the BS refs helping them. But looks like Stern is bent on keeping the Spurs down this post season. If game 4 is officiated like 2 and 3 then we need to get in Sterns face and demand an explanation. Find out where the er lives and haunt his ass until he comes clean. HAUNT HIS ASS!!
It pisses me off how quickly some Spurs fans jump . I wonder if all teams have fans like this? Man, some Spurs fans suck.
Why do you need a three-pointer when you're down by 1?
You asked WHY, ... YOU ASKED WHY??? ...WHY
Ask POP!?
With 2 seconds left and needing to go full court, I'd want Tony in there. Get him the ball in the backcourt as he's moving towards the frontcourt and let him toss it up. He's hit more of those than most people.
EXACTLY WHAT I WAS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT!!!
Oh, and Pop is really underutilizing Finley. His minutes have been so sporadic and random, how the does he expect him to get into any kind of rythmn?
And please, for the love of god, bring back Horry to the bench. Anyone with eyes can see that Horry has more impact while playing limited minutes. I know our choices are limited, with Nazr, Rasho, and Oberto...but seriously try Rasho or Oberto at this point, Pop.
Spurs just cannot win without a FIRE ginobilli
Parker clearly doesn't have the speed or quickness that he normally has. A Parker without his speed and quicknes ain't much. I doubt we'll know until after the playoffs just how injured he is. He has a deep thigh bruise, don't know how bad, but that's not an injury that goes away in a couple of days. Devin Harris missed multiple games with the same injury. In the end it may be we should be appreciative he could sack up and try to go at all.
parker missed 5 layups
he would have been 11-16 had he made them
he still does not have all his legs back
Why isnt tony in for the final play??My bad, he's only the fastest player on the court and has made numerous 3 pt plays at the buzzer this playoffs..
It just pisses me off that this team consistently performs below their standards. They won freaking 63 games with 2/3 best players banged up, including their best player at 70%. In reality they could have been a 66-67 win team if fully healthy. And yet they had major problems with the Kings and are in danger of losing to the Mavericks.
Of course it isn't over yet. But with Parker looking banged up, Manu being iffy these playoffs, it just looks like the Spurs are going to have to win a close one in Dallas in game 4. And that is going to be very tough. They never seem to have all of their big three playing well, and that is what concerns me. Now that Duncan is back, Parker is injured, and Manu can't play consistently. What next?
I consider the Mavs an excellent team. But lets get real. The Spurs at their best should beat this team (even if Dallas is at their best and despite the matchups advantages they have and all of that bull ).
Spurs are capable of more. And with Parker hurt now, it's going to be very tough to get this Game 4. Fans have reason to be upset.

Nice post, Sparky. We're three games into this series and down one game. Big deal. This series is far from over, and with games like last night it looks like it could very well go the distance.
This series should have been a great Western Conference Finals.
If I'm Parker, I'm calling out ing Pop right now. He's an allstar, his ass should be playing every ing minute that he can literally walk. He is a threat.
Most of the Spurs aren't even a threat in their wet dreams.
I declare bull on this whole postseason.
Pop is getting used.
Use to be when Parker got called out he got pissed and he came back aggressive with a vengeance. Hopefully Parker is good to go and pissed.
Parker wasn't called out by anyone. Pop, for some weird reason, had all his best 3 point shooters out there for the final play (Barry, Manu, Horry, Finley). That's why he wasn't out there. He didn't have the best game, Harris completely out-Parkered him. Now is the time we'll see if Tony learned from his regular season performance and carry that into the playoffs. He's had rought games in the regular season which he's bounced back from. I'm sure we'll see a better finisher in Game 4.![]()
To uh, draw the defense out of the paint for Ginobili to drive? Why do you need a three-pointer when you're down by 1?
Parker got owned by Devin Harris. The only thing hurt on him is his pride.
San AntoniOwned.
What the Spurs need to do is stop settling for jumpshots. We have one of the best slashers (Manu) and finishers (Tony) in the league. The game needs to be won from the paint and then take advantage of the outside. I'd settle for 2-3 of our shots being blocked early as long as we at least TRY to set the tempo. Diop is a great shot blocker but the tear drop is always an option for him and Manu needs to start taking the ball into the teeth of the defenders... it's what he does best and it's what we need him to do for us to pull out of this hole.
Spurs in 6
Dumb.
We never needed one. Tim Duncan is our PG.
these threads r so dumb. one play our way and everyones talking about how great pop is and how awesome the spurs are.
Another solid basketball take from a Mavs fan.
