IIRC looking at a few stats, he averages 6-7 rpg as a starter, in Europe. Think: Rasho on the boards, minus the shotblocking. If you can get a 20s-30s pick, you do it.
It is a different game however... take a look at the top rebounders in that league and you would be surprised how many boards they get

it's a different game over there you can't compare it to the NBA really especially since the FG% is alot higher on average then the NBA. also those 6-7 rebounds came at just 28 minutes per game which isn't bad.
That's against European players. Also, since he can only play the PF, his only minutes would be 12-13 minutes when Tim rests. Think 3.5 rebounds, if the compe ion is the same which it isn't, so refigure at 2-3 per game. He's also going to need to sign for 3 years, and will eventually be in Mahinmi's way.

    Scola seems slow.

After these playoffs the Spurs' front office may be avoiding slow.
Exactly what I was thinking. I watched him during the 2004 Olympics when Argentina won the Gold. I was not that impressed with him. Frankly, I don't see how what the fuss is all about with him. With Oberto already signed, the Spurs would be adding yet another player with similar skills. I don't see it.

Enough with trying to build Argentina team North already. We need more quickness, athleticism and defense. I say package him in a trade for a player that will help us shore up weaknesses.

Is there anyone out there of substance? If the Spurs want athleticism and youth, they may want to look at a still viable trade option to acquire J.R. Smith, and bring in a young athletic big they already have in Ian Mahinmi. It's not like they need Ian to be a prolific scorer anyway, they need him to rebound, run the floor and use his athleticism to alter some shots. He'll get a few points on putbacks and garbage stuff anyway. It will be a major improvement in terms of defense and I am betting both offensive and defensive rebounding. At this point, Rasho & Nazr are too slow and are practically slugs.

he'll take some of horry's minutes as well, i'd say he gets 18-20 minutes per game. Scola is an energy game like Malik was except scola is 6'9 not 6'5. If i had my choice i'd rather have jared jeffries over scola and just about every other FA out there but that's probably not gonna happen.

For the ones trashing Scola...do you know that before this year, his buyout was 14 mill euros? and that's the main reason of him not coming before? not because NBA coaches and scouts had doubts abotu his talent?

For the ones trashing him because he was a late second round, do you know that Manu was also a late second round?
For the ones criticizing his stats, do you believe stats in Europe are so easy to get? do you know it's a totally diferent, collective game? For instance, Gasol scored 11 pts and 5 rebs in Barcelona, before winning the ROY next year, and that top rebounders in top teams in Europe, very rarely goes beyond seven rebounds (the rebounds Scola's average in a Final Four Team)?

Even the Nocioni example should make you have a little more respect for Euro Basketball (I remember people in Chicago boards having the same type of opinions that you have now about Scola, regarding the future of Nocioni in NBA), even at his best times, his stats in Tau Ceramica were below the stats he got in these playoffs, and he was CLEARLY BEHIND Scola regarding performance and importance in Tau Ceramica, and that Scola is one year younger than Nocioni?...

I don't know why do you think that it's common to see players in Europe scoring above 20 pts and 10 rebounds per game, like in NBA happen...
I repeat, not even top stars in Europe get that...

Don't let the stats of a very different style of play fool you, and at least you should give some credit to the best inside player that is left outside the NBA, the most skilled and talented by far, and show a at least a little respect to these players and for international play.

    Dartherus is correct.

Saying Scola would only play when Duncan is on the bench is like saying Horry and Rose only played when Duncan was on the bench.

And he is superior to Oberto. For one thing he can actually jump and dunk the ball, something Oberto does about once a season.

He is at worst a rich man's Malik Rose, and whose most recent euroleague profile has him at 6'9.5"

    AND

I would think that both Scola and Javtokas is doable, though for practical reasons either Rasho or Oberto would have to be moved for time reasons.

With the MLE, Scola could get 20/25 million over 5/6 years and start on the low end because of the steps of pay increases. More than enough to handle the buyout.

The rest would go to Javtokas.

Sanikidze isn't even a blip on the MLE radar. He's a summer league invitee and could just end up like Karaulov. Even if he is signed, you're looking at league minimum or the LLE at most. Don't forget that this is a guy who has barely played the last year while rehabbing injuries, he's not about to get some great deal when he wasn't a big shot in the french league the year before.

I'm a big Luis Scola fan and I'm hoping for him to arrive next season. Dartherus is right on the money about his stats. I doubt the Spurs are looking for him to be their next Tim Duncan.

If he's signed (and IMO it's not going to be because of his talent isn't enough for the Spurs but his high buyout clause) the Spurs expect a fierce compe or, good rebounder, and a nice role player all around. I wouldn't hesitate giving him $3 mill a year for three years. He would play more then Oberto because he has more offense in his game then Oberto.

How about buying out the unused players and let them join the oppoents? How about saving the monies for paying the ref? (jk)

Scola and Javtokas would be awsome unload nazr rash and oberto. Then Horry rides into the sunset just in time for Ian to come over as well.
Scola isn't going to be a rebounding beast, but he is tough on the low block, he can score as well.
    Javtokas+scola>nazr+rasho
