I think I'm crushing Poker more than enough to beat any small stakes game in Vegas quite handily.
I was about to 2nd Hoover Dam, never mind
What are you interested in? Just gambling? Shows and nice restaurants?
ETA: "need" to take? Check out GA Manny, before it's too late![]()

Gamblers lose money! I make money, therefore I have no problem.![]()
If you are scared of JohnnyBlaze, just say so bro.
Tip the tail waitresses and tip the dealers. It makes everyone a lot happier.
And the obvious ones - when a table goes cold, walk away quickly.
Don't be afraid to walk away when you're hot, also.
On a serious note... most places have gone to automatic shufflers and two decks alternating hands, Manny. Not sure if this is a concern of yours or not.
Mandalay Bay is one of my favorite rooms just for the layout... it's nice and open, and near the sportsbook. If you are positioned right, this is good because it helps pass the time on a marathon 2/4 session.
Most casinos are offering a $200 buy in NL game these days and some will have $50 or $100 buy in.
My other favorite room is at the Mirage. The Plaza downtown is a surprisingly good place to get a late night game against dealers coming off their shifts, at least it was a few years ago. Obviously, this is a tougher game - but at the limits I was playing at (2/4) against the dealers there was a lot of info you could learn from their experiences watching thousands of other players.
And my favorite tip: stradling is a good way to break the ice and make friends at a quiet table.
It's his impecable asian math skills that are scarying me all the way to vegas.
I actually want to see if we can get a group to go to Coushata sometime. I want to play in some of the tourneys they have over there.

I think the game I'll be playing the most will be 100 or 200 NL. Thats what I've been playing with the majority of my time lately, and I'm in a comfort zone. The level of compe ion live has to be worse, so this boads well for me.
Just cause that kinda stuff is legal and has it's own HBO show don't make it right
Are you at all interested in where to eat and what shows to see? Do you plan on eating or will alcohol sustain you for the amount of time you will be there?![]()
I would hope to hit up some of the cool restaurants, but ti would largely depend on who accompanies me. Jess doesnt' like to gamble, so I'm pretty sure I she wont' be going with me everytime if at all.
But hey, anyone know where to get good sushi in Vegas? :-D
From my experience, the compe ion at the $200 NL games vary between people who have too much money on their hands and people who realize they can make $1000/day. It won't take you long to figure out who is who at the table and adjust your play accordingly. Be cautious though... Vegas is full of "pros" you've never heard of/seen who make a living off the $200 NL internet hotshots. But I would say that a live $200 NL game feels faster than one on the net.
Luxor had a really good sushi bar, but it wasn't open as of last August. Don't know about anywhere else...![]()
I've made it a point to research what the main tells online players give off are. I don't think i'll eliminate them all, but I have a decent feel to what they are and I can build off of that. Either way, I think after a few orbits it will become clear who I should avoid and who I should go after. The beauty of NL is that you only need to target one or 2 people to force play against and you can do just fine. ABC poker will probably get it done there.
I have not been there since a microsoft conference in 2001. One of the guys that was with our group... he stayed up all night long playing poker and we found him just cashing out at 9 am lol... he was still screaming.. $110,000 grand I think.
Then he went to his room and went to sleep drunk...
And yes... he was a govt employee like me at the time haha.. taxpayer money at work.
Edit: This was at the Flaminco Hilton.. nice holtel.
Nice restaurants (you need to have someplace to spend all the money you win)
Picasso's at the Bellagio. 13 pieces of his art, view of the fountains, amazing food (best ever exception below) and service $$$$$ and make your reservations now. Also, you'll have to dress up. I think they have sample menus online.
Aqua at the Bellagio - GREAT seafood, fun atmosphere, chic dress as opposed to dressy.
Del Monico's at Venetian. Emeril's steak house. Delicious. We were just wondering around when we found it and were lucky to get in, the place was full for an early dinner. Also, we were wearing jeans and felt a little under dressed, but of course they acted as if they didn't notice.
Isis at the Luxor. The steak here was actually better than at Picasso's, which in and of itself is amazing. Dark with ancient egypt decor. It wasn't busy at all, and I think we went on a Sunday night, so reservations may not be needed. Wouldn't wear jeans. $$$$$
Shows:
I've never met you but think you'd enjoy Blue Man Group. Their Vegas show is supposed to be the best. Get there early for pre-show entertainment.
Cirque de Soleil's "O" and "Mystere". Best shows I've ever seen. Truly amazing. Our jaws were on the floor the entire time. If you have seen one of their travelling shows (we've only seen Delirium) they don't even begin to compare. John enjoyed "Mystere" more, which surprises me because it's more about human emotion. I've read that their new burlesque show "Ka" is not that great. (I think that's the name). The woman are all natural, but they're supposed to look like gymnasts. I'm disappointed because we wanted to see it next time we were in town.
Don't laugh. Wayne Newton. Can't stand the man but I went because I love my husband. It was a great show, lots of fun.
As soon as you make your reservation you can work with the concierge to get good seats to the events and restaurants.
For Jess to do while you're gambling, there is a museum in the Venetian, the Hoover Dam, lots of different types of tours of the Grand Canyon, and all of the fun rides at the top of the Stratosphere.
So, I'm nosy, why do you HAVE to go? And why many shorter trips instead of one long one?
I play poker professionaly Carrie, so it would be a good idea to make a few trips there for writeoff purposes as well as World Series Of Poker reasons.
And by professionally you mean...? Sorry, I'm not much into gambling myself. I mean, I'm as happy to sit around and throw money away as the next person, and have a great time doing it. I just don't watch all of those shows or have a clue what I'm doing.
So do you have a seperate job, or you make enough money doing this? Online playing or here in town?
ETA: not to be snarky at all, but it's CaRie. One 'R'. I understood when the boobs were below the name, but now it's just a bouncing ball.![]()
Bellagio is fukn sweet... I wish I had some $$$ to blow in teh vegas.
And if you're going for write-off purposes live it up! Try ALL of thsoe restaurants and shows that I recommended![]()
Yeah, we'd never been before and it was my 30th bday. We went a little crazy. Don't regret a cent.
I'm sorry about the name. My only job is playing poker. That about sums it up. I play mainly online, but I've made some trips to the casino down in Eagle Pass as well.
No biggie.
Do you go to LA at all? Have you been to the new one in Lake Charles? We wanted to go but they were booked every week-end for the rest of the year.
That sounds like fun. I hope you have great ergo support at your desk though!
