At this point, I'm rooting for everyone. (Interesting that this thread topic didn't include France.) For example, if Argentina is playing China at some point, I'll be rooting for Argentina in that game. If France plays Lithuania, I'll be rooting for France. When Argentina plays France in the first game, I'll be rooting for Argentina. (Sorry, Tony.)

The only point where a question like the thread topic should come into play is if the US plays Argentina, France or Slovenia in the elimination rounds. If and when that time comes, I'll be rooting for no injuries to our Spurs boys above all else, but I will be happy with the outcome for whoever of them takes home a medal.

I did not agree with him. I agree with Melmart. I think you should root for the country where you are from, not currently residing. Someone like Alvarez, who was born in Argentina, but has living in the USA 95% of his life, has the right to choose.
You know who I'm rooting for.

i just wanna see some good games, and how the US team fares. i am partial to them, but it's not gonna break my heart if they don't win. i like their team building approach, it's long overdue. i am also rooting for argentina, and hopefully a US/Argentina final.

Technically, anyone from the USA has the right to choose.

You live in the USA, USA should be your number one team. The USA is about multticulturalism. To be in the USA even you are from an another country and root for a team from another country over the USA is acually a form of racism. I think this really hits home more in soccer than basketball.
what crap, im from NZ and live in Ireland, and when NZ beat Ireland in rugby i love it and can't wait to go to school the next day!

What an ignorant statement. Sports should transcend racial AND national divisions but of course it's completely understandable for one to root for one's own country IF THEY WISH and not because someone wants to lay down a race-based guilt trip. Please explain how rooting for another country is a form of racism. My family is Italian and Mexican so it would make more sense for me from an ethnic standpoint to root for Argentina, a country full of Italians and latinos. However, watching sports is a form of entertainment and I like rooting for the underdog, I'm not going to innject this whole nationalistic fervor or racial connotations to something I love. Your last statement about soccer doesn't make any sense. What are you trying to imply about soccer, a sport embraced by almost every country on earth...something that cannot be said about basketball.

That said, like the World Cup, I'm rooting for several teams, no injuries to all NBA ballers and good basketball. I'll probably favor Germany and if Argentina/USA matchup I'll probably go with Argentina but I just want it to be exciting above all else.

    I'm with you.

Slovenia is a huge favorite of mine, obviously
But I also want to see Gino, Fabri, Bruce, and Tony and Hedo ( if he plays) all have great games, do well, and above everything stay healthy.

Even though it's going to get emotional come the elimination and medal rounds, I am thrilled that so many people I love and respect are getting the opportunity to compete.
The WC is going to be a really fun time.

So.. US citizens who are military living overseas need to root for the country they currently live in? What a crock!
So, I see. You are one of those who like to take the context and turn it around. I say be pro America and you find a way to make it anit America. Okay, here is a clause. Exceptions to everyone who is here because their country sent them here. The one thing I hate is watching people who claim to be Americans root against Americans.

The first time I saw Ginobli play was the world b-ball championships in Indy. Was that 02"? The way the Argentinian team played was a thing of beauty. I found myself rooting for them just because of the way they played the game. Back-cuts, down screens, sharing the ball and playing perfect team basketball. The American team was outclassed and played stupid, one on one and they lost. I don't think it had anything to do with not being patriotic or racist, I just appreciate good sportsmen playing the right way.
