    The Spurs won 60+ games last season largely because they didn't have to replace any starters. Whether you like how they played against Dallas or not, the Spurs had two solid centers last year that enabled them to play well during Duncan's injuries. This year they not only replace their starting centers but they have made several changes to the bench. It will not be a fast start.

    Of course, we should not expect it to be. History tells us the Spurs will struggle early. Prior to last season the Spurs have always been a slow-starting team. They played their best basketball at the end of the season but it took them a while to get their new parts integrated.

    Last year they didn't have many new parts so there wasn't an adjustment phase. This year will be different. Anyone who doesn't think it will take time for the newbies to get in a groove is mistaken. The Spurs will finish very strong but they will get off to a slow start, starting with a loss to open the season at Dallas (schedule released today).

    Incidentally, I see Dallas winning 60-65 games, maybe more. They have the exact same core and if they can remain injury-free they should have a great regular season. That said, if the Spurs come together in the first half of the season I expect them to take out Dallas in the WCF.

    im thinkin 54-56 and either they loose in the second round to phoenix or they get knocked out in WCF by dallas....suns and mavs have gotten better, while the spurs have stayed pretty much the same...they gotta make another significant move to make me worried

    Not sure I agree with that. The Mavs only upgraded in one position, backup PG. In every other area they remained the same. The same can be said about the Spurs whose only real upgrade was adding a backup PF. The difference is that the Spurs moves put them in a better position to matchup against teams like Dallas and Phoenix. They have a more flexible team and a trio that remains in tact and unmatched around the league: Duncan, Parker and Ginobili. Give me all three, healthy, agaisnt the Mavs or Suns and I will take my chances.

    Spurs 3
    Mavs 0

    How does Dallas have the same core but San Antonio doesn't? They still have every single player that contributed to taking the Mavs to seven games, including three all-stars. I'm not positive that they haven't upgraded at every position. They also have a coach who isn't going to be a pussy and let everything go because the Spurs aren't coming off a championship. And there's that Tim guy who looks like he's going to be healthy.

    Barring stupid coaching or catastrophic injury, 69 wins minimum. You heard it here first. Well, you heard it here from me first, since I don't think even I've made such an insane homer prediction yet.

    69 wins is quite alot of W's...ill admit that rasho and nazi didnt get it done...and i like the addition of matt bonner...but when the mavs take a championship caliber team...and upgrade every piece theyve lost...

    buckner > griffen
    croshere > van horn
    johnson > armstrong
    ager and george >> powell and marshal

    and please im sure not all mavs fans think theyre hot cuz we took down the spurs...its just a game...and im tired of all the "we've have three championships" ...its about whats gonna happen next season...just cuz uve won it 3 times doesnt mean ur gonna win it next season....
    but according to some people here ....the past matters more than the presant...so i guess the celtics are better than both the spurs mavs and suns combined...

    I think we will have less wins, but much better team chemistry than last year. I think we will be stronger defensively, too.

    too bad detroit will be lucky to get past the second round.
    I don't think so. I'm not just saying tht because I'm a pistons fan. Miami has made no roster changes at all. Usually teams are nto as succesful when that happens.

    Cleveland only got draft picks. Yes they get Larry Hughes back, but he's only had 1 great season.

    Chicago will be a 4-5 seed next year. Ben Wallace just isn't a superstar. He'll make the Bulls a of a ball club but he won't make them #1.

    Nets will just be older. Unlees Marcus williams and Josh Boone grow up quick they won't be much better.

    Detroit hasn't got any better, but there are many players off the bench that no one has really seen. If a couple of guys perform, and Nazr does what he can The Pistons will be back in the mix. Ben didn't really fit in Flip's system and didn't go to his potential last season anyways.

    The Pistons have a great shot at making the Finals. They are not favorites by any means any more though.

    Spurs will win 55 games, and have the 3rd best record in the West. I have them goign to the Finals though.

    So the Pistons who lost Ben Wallace and have a terrible coach will be better then the Defending Champs? Riley>Flip..Heat>>Pistons... Watch with Flip staying their things I feel could get ugly. Playoffs sure but with a coach who is not respected by his players ehhhhh. I dont see anyone beating Miami in a 7 game series from the East. Bulls need an inside scorer before I consider them a team who can come out of the East.

    In looking at the schedule, I'd say the Spurs fans' motto may be "We won't know, 'til after the Rodeo." That's a pretty rough 8-game trip ending with a b2b at home with Denver then play in ATL the next day.

    despite what some people think...van horn is really bad and im sure croshere wont be any worse....giffen was too much of a liability on offense and i really dont kno why marshal and powell play basketball at all

    I really hope the three that voted for 49 or less were fans of other teams.

    o?!?!?!? They start three ing All Stars and a first team All defense player. They've had a plug in center for 3 years and averaged 59.677 wins with one trophy.

    Well, if it wasn't for Van Horn, the Mavs would've lost Game 7. He hit some dagger three pointers.

    Come on, dude. How convenient is it that you left one of the Mavs best bench players off that list?

    buckner = griffen
    croshere = van horn
    johnson > armstrong
    ager and george = Daniels

    I am being nice in saying that Ager + George = Daniels. I don't believe that for one second as I really like Daniels as a player. Of course, I have a very low opinion of George and Ager has everything to prove as a rookie. But for conversations sake I will concede their equality. Beyond that, you will have a hard time convincing me that Buckner and Croshere are upgrades. Buckner is slightly better than Griffin on offense, slightly worse on defense. Croshere and Van Horn are clones, both being big men that play away from the basket, neither of which lived up to their contracts. Croshere is much cheaper though, so that is an upgrade financially. Of all the additions, Johnsons is the only clear upgrade. He can make a difference for the Mavs off the bench.
