Speaking of pussies, where's that sandy vagina mavs4ever?
"He's got some 'splainin to do."
More like mavs4ge .
Ya think Cuban might at least hand out the Western Conference Championship rings on Opening Night. Cheeze.
Waiting until GState game is just a tribute to Nellie since he put the team together for the most part. I'm sure they'd show it opening night if GState hadn't been on schedule so early in season.
Not like it matters to y'all. They'd get ripped for doing it opening night against the Spurs and they're getting ripped for not doing it then.-lol
I didn't know that teams unveiled WCF banners. Is that common?
Spoken like a true Spurs Fan.
I think the whole point of this thread is ripping them because they're not doing it against the Spurs/opening night.
Why not rub the WCF in your rivals' face one last time before the start of the 2006-07 season?
IIRC, on each occasion that it's happened, the Spurs have had their Western Conference Champion banners hung before the Finals have started. They shine a spotlight on the banner at Game 1 (since the Spurs have always opened the Finals at home) right before the player introductions. No fanfare, no pomp or cir stance, and certainly no major unveiling -- just an acknowledgment.
I have no idea why the Mavericks didn't do that, or why they thought it was worthwhile to wait for the beginning of this season. It strikes me as ridiculous to celebrate it with any sort of special ceremony (other than the Finals) and more ridiculous still to hold off until sometime into the next season. But, that's par for the course for Cuban.
It is what it is.

Maybe because they've moved on from worrying about the Spurs so much and are just concentrating on their own game since they now know they can beat the Spurs. Once you beat the team that you could never beat, you move past all that. It's that way in any sport. I'm not saying that the Spurs can't come back and beat Dallas this season but the days of the Spurs being in the heads of the Mavs are over. Now it's just about talent & execution.
Thanks for the explanation FWD.![]()
Probably because they thought that once they knocked off the champs the rest of the playoffs would be a cakewalk. They probably already had the NBA Championship banner on preorder, just like the Lakers in 04.
The Spurs will always be in their heads, because they still have NOTHING to show for their Game 7 heroics against our guys. All that fight and no reward. It's like if they were a kid and they're FINALLY gonna beat their big brother on a videogame, but then Mom comes along and unplugs the NES.![]()
and I quote....
That's why Johnson has hit the Mavs with a series of short-term goals to focus on before they even get to the playoffs. Getting off to a good start is priority No. 1. Winning the Southwest Division is No. 2. Securing the No. 1 seed and home-court advantage throughout the West playoffs -- which they've never managed in franchise history, even last spring when Dallas finally toppled San Antonio in the playoffs -- is an ambitious No. 3 that likely would come with the Southwest le.
Seems Spurs still come first before a le.... even though that would be obvious since the Mavs will most likely have to go through us anyway.
Reminds me of that episode of "The Simpsons" where Homer is just about to kick Bart's ass on that boxing video game, then Marge strolls up and pulls the plug on them, and Bart announces his "retirement" from video boxing!

They don't want to hurt the Spares players' feelings obviously...![]()
The Mavs wouldn't dare celebrate this accomplishment during the home opener against the Spurs because they know they would get clowned by the Spurs.
It's OK to "rub it in the noses" of Don Nelson and the Warriors. They haven't won in recent years.
Anybody. Sig bet on who wins the opener?
Uh yeah, that's it. The Warriors beat us more times than the purrs did last season, I don't think we're scared about getting clowned by the purrs...especially, when Duncan made that silly quote about "We'll see who's glaring at the end" and didn't do squat to back it up. Scary stuff...Witches and goblins and spurs...OH MY!!!
Actually, I take that back....Duncan played extremely well, it was the rest of his team that sucked.
Frankly, it's kind of pretentious to make a big deal out of 2nd place. But then, we are talking about the attention-starved Mavs and their jack-ass owner Mark "the refs are out to get us" Cuban.
Maybe the Mavs will hang Leonard on opening night and then hang their banner when Nellie comes back to Dallas.
"pretentious to make a big deal out of 2nd place"
Welll, isni't the first time the Mavs have ever won anything?
