Exactly how I feel about this prick.
You're an idiot, you gotta love internet tough guys, sound like a keyboard warrior to me. Anybody that makes the decision to go and play for Bob Knight knows exactly what they are getting into. So if you go there and can't handle his old school mentality and intensity it's your own fault, his coaching style and antics are public knowledge. So I don't feel sorry for anybody that goes to play for him and is unhappy.
I couldn't say it any better myself.
Spurminator, Joe Chalupa and FWD have said exactly what I've been thinking about this whole thing.
Non-story, but is turned into one because it's Bobby Knight.
It's absolutely ridiculous (actually, it's asinine) to think that Coach Knight causes his players to lose self-esteem or feel bad about themselves. All it takes is listening to any kids who played for him and you'll know that's true.
Kids who play for Knight graduate (to the best of my knowledge, while he was at IU, only 2 of his players did not gradaute -- Isiah Thomas was one, and he returned to get his degree; I'll double check those facts to ensure they are correct). Those kids who graduate from Knight's program go on to great success off the basketball court, whether they have great success on the court or not. That's not just some random coincidence -- though it is a fact that's often lost in the shuffle of making some huge hubub to criticize his behavior.
I honestly believe that Knight wants only the best for the kids who play in his program. For crissakes, this now-completely-out-of-proportion occurrence was entirely about encouraging a kid to believe in himself because Knight believes in him. Sure, he's a taskmaster and sometimes resorts to old school methods to make his point. He's got a temper as well, and should find ways to better control it. But at the end of the day, he's undoubtedly all about those kids and making them better men as well as better basketball players.
I guess people with those goals deserve to be hated.
I agree that it's a non-story, but it has always intrigued me that a man who preaches such discipline simply refuses to live by that same code. Hypocritical is the word that comes to mind.
exactly!
this shouldn't even really be an issue
That's considered "gangsta" nowadays? Wow. Things have changed since my ol' hoodlum days. That word used to mean something much more sinister. Being "gangsta" definitely aint what it used to be.
As far as this Knight episode, I can't remember how many times I've done the same thing to my children. (forcing them to make eye contact during an ass chewing)
I thought I'd left my thug days behind me, but guess I still qualify as "gangsta" after all.![]()

agreed. While I don't think this particular incident was a big deal, its not like Knight's behavior is a secret.Anybody that makes the decision to go and play for Bob Knight knows exactly what they are getting into. So if you go there and can't handle his old school mentality and intensity it's your own fault, his coaching style and antics are public knowledge. So I don't feel sorry for anybody that goes to play for him and is unhappy.
I agree with this and I think "Keyboard Warrior" is funny. You're an idiot, you gotta love internet tough guys, sound like a keyboard warrior to me. Anybody that makes the decision to go and play for Bob Knight knows exactly what they are getting into. Although name-calling is also a sign of an "internet tough guy."
I heard alot of players that go to TT didnt get a whole lot of D-I offers, so they went to TT regardless of B Knight in order to play D-I. That being said, I agree that they knew what they were getting into.
Like I said.....coaches yelling and getting up in your face is kind of expected, but NOT a slap or any physical contact with the hands.
Sorry, I just dont agree with that.
I also coach a boys basketball team right now........I guarantee you this.....If I slapped one of these kids to grab his attention, I would get assault charges.
Nah. Nothing that simple.![]()
What pisses me off is when they don't listen, and when they start fighting with each other. Makes me wanna strangle the both of them when they're fighting.
msn can kiss my ass.
Like I said. I'd let my kids play under Coach Knight any day and be proud to say they did. End of story.
Go Big Ten!!
