What conceivable trade is there for Elson that would help this team? What team would give us what we need for a guy like him?
If the Warriors wanted to salary dump someone like JRich or even Foyle and were willing to part with Biedrins, I'd do that in a second even if it meant *gasp* giving up Francisco Elson.
Spurs fans will consider trading Tony or Manu for Jermaine O'Neal ... but don't you dare put Elson in a trade rumor.
Classic.
I would really like Biedrins or J Rich. I'd even like Jackson or Pietrus.
timvp-- call me when they offer that. I'm sure they'll trade Biedrins just to 'dump' salary like Jason Richardson, or even Adonal Foyle.
GS would not give up Biedrens to dump salary to get Elson.
timvp chiding us makes no sense. If for some reason GSW will trade us Pietrus for Elson, absolutely do it. Or maybe they'd offer Monta Ellis!!!
But within the realm of credible trades - which ain't much - no, we shouldn't be looking to trade Elson. Because we would not get equitable value for him, not for what other teams would offer.
Unless Golden State is offering Jack or Pietrus (both doubtful), I'm not interested in moving the lone big on our team who looks like he has a pulse.
Yeah, you are right. Elson is untradeable.

Of course he's not untradeable. The question is, what can we get for him? Answer: not much.
Is that Not Much better than what he gives us?
Probably not.
You find something better? Lovely.
If a team wants Elson thrown in with Barry to get a solid fifth starter or the team's first quality bench player, there's no question you do the trade.
If Elson were traded, it would be in a package deal. You can't get much back for his $3M salary. If the Spurs other bigs would have done more so far, I could have easily seen Elson/Barry traded for an expiring contractor a bench player.
I still don't know if he's the Spurs "best center". He and Oberto are about the same to me. However, he does "out tall" Oberto.![]()
Agreed. Don't know if the Spurs' front office does it, though.
The funny thing is that a lot of people actually think Elson's on the trading block because the article happened to mention his name. It could "possibly" be a rumor. I didn't know there were so many damn Elson fans. I like Elson's game, but he isn't untouchable. IF (key word), he were to be wanted by the Warriors, I am sure the Spurs would do their best to get a player back in return that would impact the team in a good way right away.
bingo! I don't think ppl are saying Elson is untradeable, but there is noone we can find that can be an improvement for that much $
Also, with the recent trade, GS has wiped off about $30 million in future contracts...they are not as desperate as they once were to shed salary.
This also goes for Bowen, people were saying trade him for something, but the reality is, he makes $3.75 million & what we would get back in a player making comprable salary, would not equal what Bowen is worth to us. Now in a package deal, he might be able to help us return more value for him, but these kind of packages a few & far between.
To me it looks like the 08/09 plan is in full effect. The best that we are going to be able to do next year is offer somebody like Nocioni our full MLE, cross our fingers & hope he wants to play with Manu & Oberto. Also, next year, Barry will be an expiring contract & maybe we could package him with the rights to Scola, and bring back somebody that can help us out.
A scrub center with good athleticism but little to no basketball IQ?
Seriously people, you think Francisco Elson is untradeable?
Look, if you've gotten to the point mentally where you think the Spurs' postseason chances hinge on some marginal big man, you're only deluding yourself into thinking that they have any chance at all.
Elson is tradeable.
This article is bull .
Sam Smith, west coast style.
Any writer who is excited about acquiring Yassah-cabbages deserves only scorn.
Some of you are foolish.
The Spurs have exactly three players who can create their own shot. If the Spurs don't win a championship, and that seems likely unless things change, this will probably be a big reason. Getting an athletic wing player who can defend and create his own shot is crucial. If you have the opportunity to trade a marginal NBA center for a player that can fill a need, you do it.
Unless, that it, you enjoy watching Bruce Bowen take people off the dribble or Mike Finley brick threes over and over again.
This team just isn't as good as the Mavs and probably the Suns. And unlike with some past seasons, it's not about giving the team enough time to come together.
If trading Francisco would fix a fundamental flaw, you do it every time.
While it's true that Elson probably isn't going to net you a huge prize, if he's packaged with a player like Barry, an expiring contract like Williams, and a pick, getting a decent player in return is certainly a possibility. Stranger things have happened.
