Will Mullin pull another deal?

SAN FRANCISCO - We can all now agree that Warriors vice president of basketball operations Chris Mullin knows how to make a mind-boggling move. He’s proven that silence doesn’t necessarily mean inaction and that, apparently, anything’s possible.
How else can you explain his two signature trades, both of which came out of the blue and with a certain “It just doesn’t add up” quality?
Two years ago, he recognized his team’s need for some star quality, and with no buildup or foreshadowing he snatched Baron Davis from the New Orleans Hornets for a backup point guard and an expiring contract.
He did the implausible again last week when he seemingly moved the unmovable, sending Mike Dunleavy and Troy Murphy to Indiana for two starters and another rotation player.
In each case, Mullin not only comprehended Warriors deficiencies, but acknowledged them and acted to correct them.
So, the obvious question is this: Who is the athletic frontcourt player Mullin will acquire?
Pau Gasol, anyone? How does Andrei Kirilenko sound? What about Rasheed Wallace?
Those of you scoffing out there don’t have a lot of credibility left. You thought the Warriors were stuck with Dunleavy and Murphy, and their big-money contracts, and Mullin moved them both. In the same deal. For Al Harrington, Stephen Jackson and Sarunas Jasikevicius, no less. And they saved $30-some million in the process.
Back in February 2005, Mullin acquired Davis from the Hornets for Speedy Claxton (OK, he’s starting now for Atlanta, but still) and Dale Davis.
Are you detecting a theme here? Harrington and Jasikevicius
weren’t fitting in for the Indiana Pacers, and Jackson simply had to go. Davis had run his course in New Orleans. Apparently, Mullin believes all it takes is one transaction to make a disgruntled player gruntled.
The disclaimer is that these two moves have yet to pay playoff dividends. Davis, for all his talent, is still working on getting the Warriors over the hump. And Harrington, Jackson, et al., haven’t proven they can or can’t help because they’ve just gotten here.
But the moves themselves are the issue here. They’ve been both confounding and hope-inspiring.
The only problem with those two trades is they set a ridiculously high standard for the next one. Is Kevin Garnett on his way here? Who knows? But it sure seems less unlikely today than it did a week ago.
Maybe Mullin’s next move will be more subtle, say for a Francisco Elson, Nazr Mohammed or Stromile Swift. It’s impossible to know.
But know this: If you and I can see that the Warriors are getting hurt too much by the likes of Ronny Turiaf, Anderson Varejao and Reggie Evans — not to mention the real big boys such as Dwight Howard, Amare Stoudemire and Marcus Camby — Mullin sees it, too.
And if Mullin sees it, we now know that he’s working on it.

Hah... Elson is going to be big for us down the stretch. We'd have to be getting something pretty damn good to trade an athletic 7 footer.
I thought the same thing. I know he isn't putting up huge numbers and still hasn't learned the system really well, but right now he is the best thing the Spurs have for an athletic big. The Spurs would have to get some pretty good players in return.
Thats not a rumor, thats some beat writer trying to guess Mullins next move.
That's why I included the word "possible" in the le.
he's doing a vecsey, yanking from his ass. no validity to this claim, merely a writer's wish list.
Exactly.
another "possible" trade rumor: Cheryl Miller to the Spurs:

I wish he would want oberto but no one does
What about Scola? How about for Jackson?....We might have to throw in another player, say Beans, or E. Williams? Maybe not, depending on the intial buyout, plus the overall contract. Do you guys think Scola would fit well in G.S.?
Well, I think Nelson would love to have a center, that is able to run the floor like Elson. But I would keep him. He is quick and strong enough to make it a little harder for Dirk of course he can't stop him... but nobody really can...
We havent even seen scola play one game in the nba, so no one knows if he will actually fit in here. Who da is BEANS? Kobe?
Uh, I'd trade Elson in a second for the right deal. Why are Spurs fans shooting a deal down just because Elson is in it?![]()
cause hes our best center and hes athletic
No, BEANS is BENO....I don't know....I just like calling him BEANS...It seems like a good fit.
u mean lil sh*t head
Yeah, same guy....Beno reminds me of a CAN OF UNOPENED BEANS.....so much potential, but without a can opener, what good is a can of beans?
Well said. After all, this guy is a 30yr old $3M/yr hole-filler at Center. He can be serviceable, but he's not untradeable in the least.
Diogu as an undersized PF who's strength is inside scoring was let go....my guess is that Scola wouldn't be popular w/ Nellie either. Francisco on the other hand....I think he'd be very attractive to an uptempo team like GS, probably the impetus for the suggestion.
Speculation on possible rumors. That's why I love this board.
Elson is far from untouchable.
I never felt that what this dude wrote was close to true. I put it on here because he mentioned Elson in this article. Why he included Elson in his article is beyond me? I just found it interesting and wanted feedback from the posters here.
I like Elson's quickness and some upside he has shown from time to time, but if Golden State really were to want Elson, I think the Spurs would let him go if they got someone in return that would improve the team.
He just pulled a name out of the air, thats all. And Elson is EASILY tradeable.
i wouldnt call him untouchable when you have fabricio oberto getting blocked by soyyass players. cisco is our best center when it comes to playing against the best teams in the west. i wouldnt call him untradeable, but unless we get a dominant guy,he WONT be traded, and Pop said that Cisco is a big part of the plan for the future,so theres no need to speculate about any rumors, when its not gonna happen
