but he had absolutely NO interest to get him this year while he still putting up very nice numbers and would play for min $$$?

how much sense would that make if there wasn't a personal reason?

he broke the AI/Nuggets trade and has been braking trade stories before you were born
Webber and Pop don't have any bad blood. Management, for whatever reason, decided they didn't need him this season. I'm sure they regret it when they see Oberto 0-for'ing on the glass.

And I'm sure you know that Vecsey has a reputation of embellishing and making up stories.

He has been playing real well for us and has just jump started the whole team. It feels like 2004 when we picked up Sheed.
That is the feeling I was hoping to get if we were to get a badass like C-Webb!

you sure you're not confusing him with his ny times writing papa? peter vecsey is about as accurate as steven a. smith's sources, he writes for the new york post for chrissakes, costs a quarter at any subway station in nyc!

i broke the nuggets trade as soon as they announced AI was done in philly...most knowledgeable people following the nba could see it coming a mile away

    You imbeciles are not reading.

Chris Webber WANTED TO PLAY for either the Pistons or the Lakers.

Get over it already. Even if the Spurs and/or the Mavericks were options, they weren't Webber's top choices.

He was going to play for Detroit or Los Angeles. The only other possibility was Miami, and that was a long-shot too.

To be honest, Webber has a lot more game left than I thought he had. I won't deny it - Webber is an old man with zero vertical or mobility. But he's arguably the best passing big man in the game, is extremely crafty on the low block, and has a decent little jumper. And though he can't dunk like he used to, he's a better finisher around the rim than I expected - because of his sure hands, he almost never bobbles the ball under the hoop.

We'll see how far Detroit can go with this new lineup. Though I still have my doubts about getting past Miami, things are looking good.

with Oberto putting up stats like 0rbs and 0pts, and Elson being garbage I think the Spurs would take 19pts 9rbs from a big man anytime

But the "genius" Pop was right to think a big man that can score, rebound, and is the best passing big man in the NBA, and would have a DIRT cheap contract, would be a bad fit for the Spurs system.

Pop should be kissing Duncan's feet everyday for getting him into the HOF and putting 3 le rings on Pop's fingers
Webber would not have fit in the spurs... he's great for detroit, playing in the east. Webber in the west wouldn't flourish as he is in the east.

Um, Webber's mind was set on going home to Detroit, or LA at a slim chance dude. Get that through your head.

Lux tax = no acquisitions this season. If you people want more les, come back next year and check to see if they've retooled the roster.

Vescey also broke such nuggets as Grant Hill signing with the Spurs for the mid-level exception, and David Robinson being traded to the Wizards for the #1 pick so Pop could draft Eddie Griffen.

You might have an argument if the Spurs had any chance of getting him when he was waived. They didn't.

Webber and the Pistons are in Renaissance Mode. They'll lord it over the Eastern Conference come playoff time.

Dumars is much better than Pop/RC in making midseason trades. There are too many years that Duncan plays alone in the post and the FO keeps bringing swings and bad post players, just to fill the roster. The Spurs need a quality post player, an backup PG and a SF, and should trade to get them. Also, too many picks get wasted waiting forever in Europe.

Spurs management either can't or won't make any good trades. just look at their track record for that. And their draft picks haven't been any good lately either.

The spurs are slipping into mediocrity.

Pop wanted to wait until he's even older and contributes less. Than he'd fit our style of paly.

What makes this soooo funny is that very few people on this board wanted anything to do with another old, worn out, bad knees shot old player on this team. he does not cover our needs and we want no part of him. i stated he was serviceable, he could hit an outside shot and open things up a little for tim on spot duty. i could care less one way or the other. but feelings were so inflamed about how the majority on this board wanted no part of that ol' fart that it makes this thread so much more the funny
