We are ranked higher because we have had harder opponents (opponents have won .505) than Dallas (their opponents are .464). Spurs also have a higher scoring margin than the mavs. His stats don't look at winning record because according to him it doesn't show how good a team is. The big starts are how many you score over your opponents (offense) and how low you hold a team (defense).

But it's daily. If dallas has a blowout game vs miami and we have a tight game, they're back on top.

Yeah, as a Mavs fan, this really doesn't bother me in the slightest--especially since these rankings really hold no value.

no wonder i dont enjoy spursreport.com..these so called mofos will be fine, even w/o making a deadline deal.

i agree also that this powerranking stat doesnt mean much but it does show that we are right there with the top teams even tho we havent gotten into playoff form as of now.

That's because we play Dallas and Dallas plays us.

[QUOTE=aaronstampler]Hey I love the Spurs as much as anybody, but the Houston match-up worries me more than the Suns or even the Mavs. We just don't match up well with them at all. We can't guard Yao, can't guard T-Mac and can't guard Bonzi. I'd be very concerned if we had to play them.[/QUOTE

Spurs and Mavs is a 7 game series again this year. Houston worries you more than Dallas and Phoenix? 20 minutes later....

Is this guy on crack? Dallas has won 90% of their games since starting 0-4. 90% is a 73-win pace. How any metric can put any team over one winning 9 out of 10 is pretty mind-boggling.
I have to agree with Baseline.

But I also like the fact that Hollinger admits he's a Spurs fan.

SINCE starting 0-4, but that does not mean that the 0-4 to open the season never happened. If we can throw out losing streaks, then let's throw out the Spurs' 3-game losing streak from January and say that they are 37-15.

Also, Dallas will not, I repeat WILL not beat Miami tonight. Shaq and Zo will own all the cheap jump shots the Mavs take all the time.

Also, it's not 90%, it's 83% on the season. No throwing out losing streaks.
What a terrible analogy. You realize the difference between "throwing out" a losing streak that occurred at the beginning of the year when a bunch of new players were still getting their bearings, and throwing out one that occurred a month ago, right?

How do you figure considering the Mavs have a higher strength of schedule rating on those power rankings?

I find it incredibly tough to deny Dallas' greatness this season. Yes, its just the regular season, but this is a team that was in last year's Finals and is hungry and taking care of business. Up to this point, they are undoubtedly, to me, the class of the league. Does that guarantee a championship? Of course not, but it also does not make them worthy of disrespect. I'm a Spurs fan, but I gotta give it up to Dallas.

And I got to give it up to you for being reasonable and cordial, and somehow managing to be one of the handful of Spurs fans on here who can make a post without referencing "3 championships" at least 4 times.

In return, I offer this--Spurs will be right there with us come April/May. No doubt in my mind.

DubMcDub, just keeping it real! Facts are facts, and Dallas' record and focus speaks for itself. I just hope there's some way the Spurs can catch Phoenix so we wouldn't have to face you guys until the WCF!!

Well, we can throw it out because the Spurs "weren't playing well" at the time, right?

This power ranking is just based on a mathematical formula.
By looking at games, Mavs and Suns are clearly the teams to beat this year.

Well, as far as being classy players, they are not. Jason Terry punched a player (we know who) and got suspended, Jerry Stackhouse flagrant foul on Shaq for no reason, Mark Cuban enough said, Avery Johnson snaps at an innocent postgame conference reporter because his team lost, and Dirk kicked the ball into the stands and says they "gave" the championship to Miami.

Add that to the fact that they lost the NBA Finals (which 99% of people act like it never happened), and want to act like they are the best all-around team, this isn't a likeable group of players by any means.

It will be so fun to come back on here in June and laugh at all the doubters of the Spurs. 4th championship parade coming up.

Dallas, Utah, and SA have all beaten Phoenix this year. So they aren't the team to beat, they are the team who can win against the Hawks and the Celtics 60 times in one year.

So the spurs don't make the top spot in power rankings than it doesn't matter but once they get it you celebrate.

Your team did jack to improve so how do you expect to beat us now? You are old as and Bowen is now having problems with age. You have rebounding issues still and we got over the hump against you guys last year. I hope you dont get eliminated in round 1 because I want to be the team to sweep the Spurs this year.

The only thing we need to do this year to improve: Make sure a player doesn't foul in a Game 7 with 30 seconds left and a 3 point lead.

What else went wrong in that series for us? Nothing. Duncan, Parker, and Ginobili are not old. You can call the bench old all you want but as long as our main core is young, we're fine.

You got over the hump, but at the end it all meant nothing. You lost to another old and aging un-athletic team, proving the win over the Spurs in round 2 a fluke.

You were down 20 points in game 7. We lead and controlled the tempo of every game that series (except game 5). The game shouldnt of even went to a 7th game but our inexperience was a huge reason why. An experience Mavs team will end your season in no more then 5 games.

The series shouldn't have gone 7 games? Oh and I suppose the NBA Finals should have been won by Dallas too?

If Dallas wins the Finals, they proved that they are for real. But they didn't.

I am concerned about wear and tear on Bowen, and I don't think the Spurs have improved since last season, although I'm keen on following Elson and Bonner, to a lesser extent. Finley seems to have aged 5 years since last season as well. So I think that the Spurs are clearly flying under the radar...and very well may stay under radar.

Having said that, I do know that in the playoffs, its a shortened, PRESSURE PACKED season, both of which benefit a team like San Antonio based on championship experience. I think that Pop has by no means overplayed anyone, so I expect the Spurs to be as fresh as anyone once the real season starts. Plus, as well all know, luck plays a role in championship runs, however significant.

Also, as long as the Spurs can keep Parker, Ginobili and Duncan healthy throughout the playoffs, the Spurs will have a shot. Honestly, I kind of like the fact that the spotlight is way off the Spurs. I think they tend to perform better when they are not everyone's favorite to take the cake. We'll find out who's smack holds ground in a few months from now!
