And no way is Manu greater than Duncan--As much as we all love Manu on the floor, his job is to come in and provide energy and scoring--Duncan's responsiblities are far and beyond greater than anything Manu brings--Duncan is the anchor of the team on both offense and defense.

I have long believed that there should be two separate awards: Player Of The Year and Most Valuable Player. That sounds stupid, and in practice the two awards would go to one player in the majority of seasons.

However, there are occasions where the best player in basketball is not necessarily the most valuable, and I would like for the two award system to record that distinction where appropriate.

    MVP

    Finals MVP

That would be sweet but......not gonna happen.
I would like to see him win sixth man of the year honors though. This probably won't happen either because he was moved to the bench a little too late....but you never know.

IMO, Dirk will probably win MVP....but you can make a case for Nash too.
I think Manu still qualifies for the sixth man award this year, at least thats what I heard Steve Kerr and Marv Albert say at the last game they called just a few games ago.

I'd love for Manu to bag that award, but Ben Gordon will probably win it.

As per usual, Bucher is all over the board:

    On the MVP:

Bucher: Steve Nash. Just because the voters screwed up and didn't recognize Kobe Bryant last year doesn't mean Nash should pay the price this year, when he deserves it more than ever before. The arguments I hear for Dirk is that he's the best player on the best team and that "he's due," as if he's accrued brownie points over the years.

Finals MVP is not a regular season award, and I was referring to regular season awards.

Besides, Finals MVP can go to some guy who gets hot at the right time. JoJo White, Cedric Maxwell, and Joe Dumars have all won Finals MVP. Nice players, but were any of these players ever the best in basketball for a full season? Of course not.

How many games off the bench does Manu need to qualify?
If he is qualified it is between Ben Gordon and Manu.

I would love to see Manu win that award because he really does deserve it and does a lot for this team but I don't think he's going to win it (especially with the very few minutes that he gets as it already is). Ben Gorden is averaging more points and Leandro Barbosa is having a great year and averaging a little more than Manu is right now. Maybe if he had some more minutes and a few more shots he could get it.
