on NBA Coast to Coast
the debate was on Dirk and Steve Nash, Bucher gives mad props to Duncan and how Duncan in his opinion defines his idea of MVP. Thanks Ric, you are pretty much the only one I have ever seen or heard give consistent props to the Spurs over the years.
Duncan is by far not the MVP of the league this year. It's definitely Dirk's.
No chance.
But Tim will take Finals MVP as a consolation prize.
the mvp this season is all dirk, but he can lose it.
nash shouldnt even be in discussions though, i dont give a if his more efficient this season, or sitting out games to prove his valueble to the team, that applies to every franchise player on every other team, and your telling me a team like phoenix with all the talent cant win without nash? SONS = OVERRATED. whose to blame for their 6-7 man rotation, whose to blame for there players logging big minutes, whose to blame they dont have a backup PG for nash...... the sons.
Yea, not this year for Tim, but that doesnt mean . Skip Bayless also gives the Spurs props every year
I doubt that Tim would manage to snag MvP ... I believe that Nash will for the 3rd year in a row, and that Timmy will win his 4th Finals MVP or Parker/Manu will get their 1st.
Keep dreamin buddy![]()
Welcome to a Spurs forum, go yourself. You don't like how we talk, go post over at MavsTalk ... oh wait.![]()
Reminds me of the perfect le for a future gay porno...."Cuban's Missle Crisis".
I agree it is Dirk's to lose he has had the best year on the best team in the NBA all year long. Timmy has his 2 mvp's and this team is no longer set up for him to have to carry them in the Reg season.
yeah, although timmy has have had another all-star season he has received contributions from just about every1 on this squad.
if any1 is dreaming its you and your name mavs>spurs in what way?![]()
its how each individual who is voting defines MVP. Bucher spoke about Stern never 'defining' MVP for that specific reason. It could be a number of things not just a team record, its all subjective. I don't see Tim getting MVP either but Mr. Bucher put up a very nice argument for it.
That's true. But it's kind of like every year back in Shaq's prime when someone other than Shaq would win it. The other player may have been more deserving of the award... but the fact of the matter was that Shaq was as valuable as any player in the league.
The fact right now is that Tim Duncan is as valuable as any player in the league. It isn't just his numbers, but his precense in the post that creates so many opportunities for other players. Dirks numbers are better this year, but he doesn't have quite the precense that Tim does in the sense of creating open looks and open lanes for teammates.
That's not to say Dirk doesn't create those opportunities... just not as many as Duncan does. And in a big game Duncan has always been as valuable as anyone.
Dirk is a scorer
precisely and that was the whole Tim for MVP argument.![]()
I have long believed that there should be two separate awards: Player Of The Year and Most Valuable Player. That sounds stupid, and in practice the two awards would go to one player in the majority of seasons.
However, there are occasions where the best player in basketball is not necessarily the most valuable, and I would like for the two award system to record that distinction where appropriate.
wrong and no.
The MVP is usually decided from now until the end of the season. It's still up for grabs.
is there an award voted by the players? i find that more credible than a bunch of media anals giving their opinions, since a bunch of them are homers.
Up until the 1981 season, the MVP was voted on by the players.
MVP of the streak is Manu. Why not throw his name into consideration, rather than Duncan?
That would be sweet but......not gonna happen.
I would like to see him win sixth man of the year honors though. This probably won't happen either because he was moved to the bench a little too late....but you never know.
IMO, Dirk will probably win MVP....but you can make a case for Nash too.
Well, from what I've seen as of late, I don't know who else would take that 6th man away from Manu. I don't think anyone could argue should he win that award.
I can't see how the MVP goes to anyone other than Dirk this year. He's earned the award; he's been stellar for months on the best team in the league.
What I do think is interesting, though, is the fact that Timmy is legitimately in the MVP conversation again after several years of hearing stories about how Tim Duncan was in decline, how Tim Duncan's career was spiraling downward because of injuries and age, and how Tim Duncan wouldn't ever be a dominant player again.
The reports of Tim's demise appear to have been exaggerated.
