bruce bowen no longer a candidate?
nah, not this season
I think Duncan is very debatable as well if only because our D feels very suspet this year compared to seasons' past.
However, it is a down year for DPOY I suppose
Seriously, I'd like to know what's so different between this year and last year for Bowen?
It feels like Kobe and Melo and all these other players go off on him a lot more than normal. I'd be interested to see his head to head matchups with the premeire players of the league compared to this year and last year. I'm sure his stats are close enough, but I think a lot of the Bowen doubters are pretty much basing this one only remembering the bad games which really isn't fair at all
All I know is that Bowen is +6.4, with only Duncan and Ginobili having a higher +- than him (unless you count James White), and he sure isn't scoring that many points.
You are probably re ed enough to actually believe he is too.
Bruce Bowen should, but hes not apreciated enough.
as evidenced in this thread, hes not even valued by his own damn fans.
marcus camby could win it this year...
his havin a healthy year...its up to him to hold onto it till end of teh season....
duncan looms
Beat me to it.
Defensive stats include (as a team), IMO....
near the top in differential rebounding
near the top in steals
near the top in OFG%
near the top in OPPG
near the top in blocks
Im sure I could think of a few more. Like I said, theyre top 5 (no question). But not the best in the league.
I would look at OPP turnovers and OPP3PT% as well.
co-cadidates.... Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili.![]()
He's making fewer shots.![]()
OPPG isn't nearly as telling as all the opponant statistical breakdowns. Tempo, more than defense, tends to factor in here. A couple seasons ago, didn't the Grizzlies have the lowest (or one of the lowest) OPPG? I believe so, and they were promtly swept by the Suns in the playoffs, a Suns team who was probably one of the worst teams for OPPG.
OFG% is #1, closely followed by rebounding differential, then all the various stats like blocks, steals, forced turnovers, P3FG% and then OPPG. It certainly factors in, but you just can't look at OPPG and say a team is a good defensive team. They could just be coached by Mike Fratello or Jeff Van Gundy, coaches who's teams slow things way the down, rebound well, but can't really get stops at all.
Emeka? no.
You make such a compelling argument. He probably won't get much attention since he's in a small market and on a team with no real defensive reputation to speak of but that doesn't diminish his individual accomplishments. I just think that he's in the same league as Duncan and Wallace as the kind of guy that you could build a great defensive system around.
As I was saying . . .
