Who should get DPOY this year?

Personally, I think Duncan should finally get one.

    1. Marcus Camby
    2. Dwight Howard
    3. Gerald Wallace (probably doesn't have a chance, but he deserves consideration)
    4. Shane Battier
    5. Tim Duncan/Kevin Garnett

When 10.8 rebounds per game, 2.08 blocks per game, and 1.47 steals per game are below expectations, those are pretty high expectations.

Consider that Tim Duncan averages 10.6 rebounds per game, 2.3 blocks per game, and .84 steals per game in one fewer average minute per game, and people appear to think he's a legitimate DPOY candidate but Ben Wallace is not.

I take Shane and Tim over the guys you mentioned, Camby has been up and down after the All Star break because of Nene getting a ton of board in games too, and to be honest he is not a great post defender he just fills up the stat sheet with boards and blocks. That's why I think someone like Battier should be considered more. He is a better DEFENSIVE player.

That's because Duncan's been anchoring the best defense in the NBA for the last, oh, decade or so

Yes that's what Kerr said. Duncan is the center of the Spurs defense, it just makes it easier for other guys to play defense when Timmy's patrolling the lane.

Tim is never stat-heavy these last couple of seasons. And the Spurs are by far the best defensive team in the league, while having the best record as of the players' teams mentioned earlier.

Granted that defense is the least quantifiable aspect of any game, if you go by the usual stats of rebounds, blocks, and steals (and we know that there's no shortage of lazy voters who will) then Emeka Okafor's name should be in the mix. Averages about 11.5 boards, 1 steal, and 2.75 blocks per game.

So, you want to give DPOD (Defensive Player of the Decade) and just make it the DPOY?

I think Houston might be a better defensive team than the Spurs. They might not be, but I don't think the Spurs are "by far" the best, if they're even the best at all. Chicago is very good defensively as well.

More or less. I personally think Duncan should have won it many times before this season.

But now you have a down year for the DPOY (Bowen would have been a lock for the award this year if you swapped this year and last), and Duncan is never, ever a bad pick for any consumate awards. MVP, DPOY, etc.

Spurs win in the other two catogeries, so therefore 2 > 1, that means SA Defense is #1.

i would give it to Marion cause of his ability to block shots, harass the shooter, and get steals but he plays for the Suns so they wouldnt give it to him.

its a down year so id say Duncan
