I'm not disagreeing with you...maybe he does cuz he got tired of people butchering it constantly.
, I just spell my last name...it's a lot easier! But sometimes I will throw in the German pronunciation just to screw with people!
i think he just Americanized his name for all of us....i recall him saying that technically his name is pronounced "Dierk No-vit-ski"
i could be wrong tho.

And that probably has a lot to do with his Americanization. Half of my family is pure German and they consantly butcher anything with a w in it
I seem to remember announcers pronouncing it "No-witz-ki" during his first couple of years in the league. Somebody probably then read a rumor on Hoopsworld that he pronounced his name "No-vits-ki", and the rest is history.
It's a little known fact that Nowitzki actually means "large vagina" in German.
Dirk is probably the coolest guy I've interviewed in the NBA. (I'm not really counting Spurs players though Dirk might be the absolute coolest)
in all unbiasedness, Dirk does seem like a really great guy, and the story I saw the other day with him and Nash seems like they are both good guys.
I do like Nowtizki, hes one of a player, and he really doesn't whine any more than a Duncan or whoever.
Nash and Nowitzki are just regular "joes" that like to party with hillbillies.

I say we go back to saying GeeNo BeeLee.
I agree they way his name is pronounced is annoying.
Obviously you've never interviewed a Trail Blazer.
It's kinda hard to get to know someone while separated by a piece of glass and speaking into a phone.
Kori's a sports reporter, not a court reporter.
tlong should change his name to tstraight.
Hey, is Nene a Latino?
Lusophone perhaps?
LOL. no. from the world of hawt Brazilian ladies.
It´s just a different culture. We simply dont have any kind of rule about the name used in jerseys.
Usually, people will call you as you want to be known, even if you´re a foreigner...
Yep. I had a friend from Germany whose name was was John Müller but he'd introduce himself as "John Miller" when he was here.

Looks the right pronunciation here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeFba...elated&search=
"I am displeased."
I took German courses from 7th grade through my senior year of college. On the first day of German 101 you will learn that the "w" is pronounced as "v". I would bet money that Dirk is Americanizing his name. It's not an uncommon thing.
You and your German. How are things going pussypants?
Kori pays attention...![]()
I'm assuming that Dirk pronounces his own name like he wants other people to do it...that was my point. Nothing more, nothing less...
Good to know...I've always thought he was hilarious in a dry kind of way...
