No, it was luck that the Spurs made it that far becuase the Mavs got knocked out and that the league suspended the best 2 Suns players.
Boris Diaw is one of the best 2 Suns players? What about that one two time MVP cat? He was still playing.

I don't get how you can be frustrated while the offseason hasn't really started.

How many trades have been done since the draft ? ZERO.

The real offseason start in two days and Sunday is the deadline to bring Scola in nba. If next monday, Spurs have done nothing, you could start being disapointed. Just wait one week before using this or this .

There is no need for any asterisks, speculation or hand-wringing. The 2006-2007 Spurs were the best team in the playoffs. The results are just/correct... the best team in the playoffs won.

THEY WERE LUCKY I'm sure of that
I guess it could be considered to be some kind of luck running into a one man team in the finals.

Oddsmakers had to be ting all over themselves trying to figure out how to get someone, anyone to put money on the Cavs.

Even if the Spurs were just lucky, as a fan, I'll be happy with lucky again.

I don't think lucky gets you 57 wins or more in 7 consecutive seasons; I don't think lucky gets you to a point that over a stretch of 26 playoff series, only two franchises can say they've beaten you; and I don't think lucky is the thing that gets you to 3 les in 5 years. But if others want to call it that, I'm cool with it. I'll be reminding myself of just how lucky we are when the 2007-08 season opens and we're watching the Spurs accept another round of championship rings and seeing another banner hung from the rafters.

Lucky like a champion, I guess.

I don't think the Spurs have to do much. My main concern is aging swing players. It seems likely that at least one of Bowen, Finley, and Barry will substantially decline in playing ability. Father time can sometimes be temporarily delayed, but never permanently avoided. Hopefully, White or Williams can provide some help, but I don't think that is too likely.

A decent 3rd PG would be my next concern. Spurs will probably find someone in the bargain basement, with all that implies. Also, if that is one of your biggest concerns, there can't be too many holes to fill.

A front line of Duncan, Oberto, Horry, Elson, Bonner, and Butler is pretty good. Elson and Bonner should play better in their second year and provide some insurance against the elder Horry. I don't see any reason to bring in Scola except as trade material.

Kudos to Kyleo! I don't want to put Fast Dunk into a suicidal funk but I was a kid when Reed/Clyde/Pearl/Debush/Senator/Jackson had their time in the Sun. 35 years later the Knicks are still nowhere in sight of winning it all. The Cavs may not see final's waters ever again even if James stays past his current contract. What the Spurs have accomplished in this decade of free agency and salary caps is extraordinary. Finally, calling Duncan old is rediculous. He will be 31 until the end of next season and likely has 4 more great seasons in him since he doesn't rely on rim hanging dunks to make a ESPN hi-light reel. By the way, why is the finals loser hosting the Espy's instead of someone on the championship team?

even though we won the championship i think its gonna be hard to repeat if we dont pick some one up or bring over scola. i dont know about bonner..he did show some promise b4 he got hurt but ely and beno gots to go..... maybe even butler..i dont see anything special in him. damn just frustrated and needed to vent. with all the FA returning to there teams i dont know who else would help
It's always hard to repeat. That's why so few teams have managed to pull it off. But just because you bring in someone new, doesn't mean the team suddenly gets better.

I rather like our chances with what we have. Guys who have played together for a while, and know the system.

I look for the Spurs to play along without any player playing too many minutes, and win around 55 games. Of course, the big thing is to keep the Big 3 as healthy as possible during the RS.

I actually look for Elson to up his game some this year, and I actually think fans will be surprised with Bonners contributions.

I also hope to see White come along over the summer and be able to contribute next season. And it would be great if Butler could somehow play up to his expectations when he was brought here.

The one place I think we could be a bit weak at is PG. I think it's time for Beno to either go, or play like he is capable of. Vaughn is fine for the few minutes he rests Tony, but I shiver to think that if Tony went down we would have to rely on him to run the offense.

But I doubt you are going to see any big trades out of the Spurs. Beno, Barry maybe. I suppose probably Ely is gone. But we aren't getting any big time player for them. We are going to battle with the same core we had.
Just Believe they can do it again.

Agreed. The Mavs beat the Spurs the year before in a game 7 OT match when Tim Duncan was hobbled and hardly as capable as in the past. So to say that the Mavs would have been a slam dunk to whoop the Spurs is simply ignorant.

Does anyone else get the feeling that aside from Horry, these will be the last paychecks for Barry and Finley also?

Does every single thread, regardless of the original topic, have to turn into trolls coming in and talking about the suspension and/or Mavs getting kicked out of the 1st round? It's funny at first, and provided some entertainment, but after 12,000 times, it does start to get boring. And one would figure that Mavs and Suns fans wouldn't want to rehash their own embarrassment over and over again.
And no, I wouldn't read it if I knew it was going to turn into another pointless thread about trolls if the threat le wasn't about a topic I am geniunely interested in.

For the last time.....We were and still are better than the Suns. No luck needed. We beat them on their floor twice. Even w/o Amare and a no-factor in Diaw in game 5: We were down 16 and came back to win.

We beat Denver and Utah. Both of those teams would have beaten the Cavs. In fact, Cleveland would have struggled with any team in the West. We were nice enough and you were fortunate enough to be swept. No use in prolonging the agony.

But hey, be proud. Your sorry team is the best in the LEastern Conference.

I am a big fan of moving Barry's expiring contract to a team like Chicago in the East with fillers of Butler and/or Beno. I hope this happens and we begin to develop a nice wingman or defensive specialist.

But in my heart of hearts, I am skeptical anything of significance will go down.

Once you are up 3-2 and having a close out game at home it;s hard to beat the odds, Game 5 was a huge factor for the fortunate Spurs.
Are you a Mavs fan hiding behind the facade of a Cavs Fan..

Come on out.. No point talking hiding behind some bogus team ..
