It'll make what has been a pretty one-sided regular season matchup (Celtics = 1 win vs. San Antonio in the T.D. era) less one-sided.
Plus, Bowen vs. Ray Allen.
But it doesn't really matter unless there's a Boston-S.A. Finals.
I think Timmy and Chris Webber might have something to say about that, however I agree, Garnett will work well with those two.

And thats a of a lot better than being in the lottery
Yep, and they'll still be pissed that he shoots it 18 times a game.
, but of course. I just would like to be reminded that 3 former go to guys from the other teams suddenly playing together does not guarantee an automatic championship.
with Pierce also shooting 18 times and Allen shooting another 18...
If they gel, it will be like a Denver Nuggets team without the George Karl discipline. I'd expect them to have some iden y issues with who is the 4th quarter closer (Allen or Pierce) in the fall.
Doc Rivers actually seems to be a very discipline-oriented coach.
And IMO, it's a mistake to compare these stars to the Denver stars.
AI and Melo, as well as JR Smith are primarily known as scorers and have reps as being selfish.
I've not heard the same things about Garnett, Allen, or Pierce. Sure there will be some rough patches as far as chemistry is concerned...but these players are professional enough to get through them.
IMO, this trio has the ability to be much more successful than the Denver Duo.
2 games
Wolves vets (Davis, Blount, Jaric and maybe Hassel) will be available for players with shorter contracts and/or draft picks. It could affect Spurs if they are trade to a Spurs' rival.
And I will really like to have Gomes with a Spurs jersey even it's kinda a pipe dream.
I would still very much like for Udoka to sign up with the Spurs. Spurs can just matchup Bowen & Udoka with Pierce & Allen on the defensive end.
On offense, well, the Spurs can just run their typical Spurs offense at the Celtics.
All you say is pretty true. However, I think DPOY Camby should be considered to be similar to KG on the defensive side. On offense, Denver has Nene, to make up for Camby's lack of scoring punch. Allen seems like an older Melo (I remember the days when he dunked on guys like crazy, and was more of an inside-outside threat, around 2000). Pierce, well I see him more like a taller Andre Miller, but similar to AI because he needs the rock to produce, and is a defensive liability...
All of this aside, I think the NBA is going to be really fun to watch next year, and I'm already excited. Think of all the subplots: The rookies and their rejuvenated teams out NorthWest...the Rockets and their new Euroleague bigman...the Lakers with or without Bryant, The Hornets vs. the Jazz as teams with talented young PGs. The Warriors trying to stay healthy and prove that Nellie's small ball system can compete...Charlotte, New York, Orlando and their acquisitions. One more year of development for LeBron, Melo and Wade. And lastly, the Spurs, Mavs and Suns, standing pretty much pat and duking it out at the top.
He will be a free agent next summer.![]()
The only way this affects the Spurs is that Bonner will only have 2 games to beat up on KG. Should be fun.
The best way it affects the Spurs is the All-Star game. Now Duncan won't have any compe ion when it comes to the starting forward spot on the Western team. Sweet!

Garnett did agree to a 3 year extension with the Celtics, which made the trade possible for the Celts to even consider.
Salary figures obtained by ESPN.com show that Garnett's salary will be $14.7 million in the 2009-10 season, $17.1 million in 2010-11 and $19.5 million in 2011-12, when he'll be 36. Garnett was already scheduled to earn $22 million and $23 million over the next two seasons.
(For salary-cap purposes, however, his salary in each of those years will jump by $1.75 million to account for the trade kicker, making it $23.75 million for 2007-08, $24.75 million for 2008-09, $16.4 million for 2009-10, $18.8 million for 2010-11 and $21.2 million for 2011-12.)
Only best passing? Rebounds, dude!
KG+Pierce+Allen=too much!but not much better than Tim+Tony+Manu.
Davis and Hassell don't figure prominently in the Wolves plans now that Garnett is gone. Davis is in the last year of his contract, and will either be traded or the Wolves will let his contract expire and let him walk. He's a cancerous clubhouse presence and would stunt the growth of the young guys that Minnesota has just brought in.
Hassell may be kept since his contract will be difficult to unload, but he won't be a prominent player with the Wolves.
If McCants doesn't work out, Brewer may be shifted to the 2-guard spot, leaving room for Gomes at the 3.
that's a trade I would like:
Spurs trade Barry + future 1st rounder to Wolves for Hassell + Gomes.
if Spurs think about signing Udoka, they could also see an option in Hassell.
Hassell can't shoot as well, but he's stronger, younger and more NBA expirienced than Udoka. (and also did very well in the one PO series he played 2004, remember how he destroyed Carmelo, in one game Melo even shot 1-16!)
Hassell is a bit overpayed, but not that much. he would make much more impact, than Barry could next season. the major benefit would be to also get Gomes.
why the Wolves might do it?
they save 2 years of the contract of a player, who likely doesn't have that much future with the team. (in numbers: 9 million). they will have even more cap space 2008, a years that is expected to see a very strong FA class. they might even find a role for Barry, they lack shooting (even more with James gone) and a two times champion veteran on a very young core should also have some good influence, at least in the locker room.
We won't be able to find #21 anymore...........but seriously, Garnet's biggest contribution in the lowpost will be to provide a focus for the ballhoggers; he has enough presence to make Pierce and Allen cooperate, and Garnet will intimidate, discourage penetrations, alter shots and layups provided he can still get star treatment.
They're better now with him, but not enough elements to Celts game to counter any postseason contests they may have with the Spurs.
Olajawon > KG, MVP 2 Finals MVP vs. MVP + 1 trip out of 1st rd. compliments of ET.
Barkley > Pierce MVP, Finals compe or vs. Allstar
Drexler > Allen Ring, another try vs. Allstar
Tired of the comparison, frankly. The Houston trio was MUCH more formidable than what Boston has cobbled together + Rudy T. vs. Doc. - no freaking comparison.
I think Gomes has 1 year left on his contract and it's a min contract at that. Minny has a number of contracts to dump and his small contract probably isn't one they are going to part with. Especially talent versus pay wise -- they have a steal. I'm sure they would be more than agreeable on dumping Hassell though.
Gomes would be an UFA next year, but I doubt we would go after him because his value might be a bit too high then.
Sheed, KG, and Chris Webber are better passers then Duncan. Duncan is just a beast down low though and beats everyone at that though.
Gomes will be a RFA, the situation would be much like it was this year with Bonner.
(even if the Spurs didn't wait till he tested the market)
for the Spurs it would be a situation, I assume the FO is looking for. one year to see if the player fits and a good position to resign him if they like him.
agree that compared to the salary Gomes is a steal, still it is a question what plans they have with him long term.
Davis, Brewer, Green....they have some guys to play SF, Gomes might just be the odd man out, even if they somehow like him. (that's why it would take at least the mentioned 1st rounder to get him into the package). considering how hard teams try to dump contracts, the Wolves might take the chance to dump Hassell, even if it costs them Gomes. Hassell's value is limited, not many teams will go for him, but for the Spurs (and their system) he has more value, than for most other teams.
Or Shaq, Kobe, Malone AND Payton!
