There is a whole movement called domestic discipline that would really get behind this guy's statements. It's predicated on head of household (generally the man) and that HOH setting rules and making sure the entire family, including the wife sticks to them. Often, failure to do an assigned chore or disobedience results in punishment, usually of the corporal kind. But, they are very quick to point out, a spanking is not the same thing as a beating. Beating and abuse are wrong.
It's not something I can claim to fully understand and not something I endorse, just an interesting sidenote to what had been posted.

Well, in contemporary times Catholicism comes to mind first and I thought Jannissaries were dhimmi soldiers? Anyways, kind of ironic, because both religons condemn it.
