I've never understood all the love GnR got, but I tend to like heavier stuff so my opinion of them is that they are similar to many other 80's rock groups.

Axl Rose's voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. High pitched and whiny.

Personally I love Disturbed. It's great music to work out to. You're going to tell me that all of the metal bands of the 80s (especially the love ballads) are so much better? Complete with the atrociously cheesy lyrics? That 80s syntha-pop.. man, that's where it's at for music!

I'd hardly call the glam bands metal. rock is more like it.

That's not entirely true, sure there are too many pop punk bands but you also have bands like Mastodon, Black Label Society, Hatebreed, Disturbed etc. Remember even though the 80's and early 90's had some kick ass bands the popular stuff were bands like Poison, Warrant, Winger and a bunch of other pussy ass . There's good stuff out there you just have to look for it.
