The '72 Dolphins had some really close games against some really scrub teams. Games they would have lost if not for the other team blowing it at the end. They were good, but they weren't elite. That team was just as easily 12-2, as they were 14-0.
Brady would get a career ending injury in the first quarter if you tried to put him with any of those old teams. Football was different then. What a bunch of weak comparisons ESPN is reaching for. Pats have had some really close games against some really scrub teams. Games they would have lost if not for the other team blowing it at the end. They are good, but they aren't elite. This team is just as easily 13-2, as they are 15-0.

I was actually happy when I saw the Sportscenter Kiss of Death...Down Go the Pats!! Down Go the Pats!!
Just like they did in the Super Bowl that year![]()
Yeah that QB matchup of Jim McMahon vs. Tom Brady would put Chicago over the top.
I dunno. Their secondary would have a VERY hard time stopping Moss.
The only two teams that I say that these Patriots have no chance against whatsoever are the 80's 49ers, and the 90's Cowboys.
I think the late 70's Steelers as well. Mel Blount would have made Moss cry like a baby.
Mel Blount couldn't commit pass interference on every play like teams did in the 70's. Take that away from him and he becomes about as useful in coverage as Adam Archuleta.
Who said they're playing in 2007 NFL and not 1978 NFL?
SpursDynasty, you forgot to log out as Extra stout.
Fine take them back to 1978. In that case, New England destroys them even worse. They're bigger, stronger, faster, AND they can grab and hold with impugnity? It's not even a ing game. Plus the fact that there's about 20 QB's in the NFL today that are better than Terry Bradshaw.
These players today aren't conditioned to play like they did in the '70s. The Pats would get smashed in the mouth worse than they ever have before. There would be much Pats blood shed in that game. Steelers win since the Pats just aren't accustomed to being bitten, kicked, and eye gauged.
Brady would be concussed on the first play of the game in 1978's NFL.
Not to mention what would happen to Moss the first time he mouthed off to someone like Jack Tatum.
Then again...Rodney Harrison would be able to get away with more too.
Roy Williams would lay ten thousand times more wood in 1978... probably break ten thousand more legs too.
Holy . Are you serious? Mel Blount is one of the greatest cornerbacks to ever play the game. He was 6'3 and 205 pounds. Look at his return yards off his picks. That should tell you that he was a great athlete. He could and would adjust to the rules. He played until 1983 and retired at age 35 which meant he played through several rules changes.
What do you think about Herb Adderley? I suppose he couldn't compete against Moss either, right?
the dolphins didn't beat anyone with a winning record in the regular season.
Personally I think that going 16-0 in todays NFL would be pretty damn impressive. The parody created by the salary cap makes it pretty hard to go out and win every game. Besides you can only play who they put on your schedule, and in the NFL a win is a win. I would love to see the patriots crush the Giants only because it would crush their confidence going into the playoffs. Since I am a cowboys fan I would rather see the giants suffer than see the Patriots lose.
You've gotta be ing kidding me. Let's see some 250 pound lineman from the 70's try to pull some on Leonard Davis. Or Vince Wilfork. Or Booger McFarland. Or Ted Washington. Or Jonathan Ogden. Players in today's game are just as tough, faster, quicker, stronger, and in some cases 50-100 pounds heavier. Players from the 70's can play with all the grit and heart they want, they're NOT ING TAKING OUT A GUY 100 POUNDS HEAVIER WHO IS ALSO STRONGER, FASTER, AND MORE AGILE. Say what you want about steroids and such, but players from the 70's just don't match up physically in any way whatsoever.
It would be damn impressive. But a loss in the playoffs or SB after a 16-0 season would be the mega failure of all failures.
I disagree. Height wise, they were the same. The players from the 70's had body frames that could put on at least another 30 pounds, if needed.
It's two different eras so if they were to play in some virtual simulation, there would need to be a compromise on size and several other variables. I argue if you are a great football player, you are great in any era.
you = dumb
