Did you actually see Juno yet or are you pre-scoffing it
I haven't seen any new movies since Beowulf.
I liked it but I don't get sea sick. It's just a movie.

We just got back from seeing it. It was FAR from the worst movie I've seen.
I didn't feel the intense-ness that I felt when seeing I Am Legend, but it was definitely "good". People expecting to have all their questions answered about the monster, what happens to the people,etc...don't know J.J. Abrams. If you keep in mind his style, you won't be disappointed.
When we first entered AMC, they had a sign posted on the Cloverfield promo poster warning about motion sickness. Apparently a bunch of people got sick on opening night. Gross! We sat towards the top of the theater and we were fine, no sickness or dizziness.
^ lol @ elpimpo. I can kind of see where you're coming from, but I liked Juno very much. I can respect someone who can explain why they didn't like it though, rather than saying something like "it sucked" and leaving it at that.
*** some spoilers ***
As for Cloverfield... I actually enjoyed it alot. It was creative, very comical at times, and of course intense. Kept me on the edge of my seat. I'm glad the monster was more of a backdrop than anything, didn't necessarily dominate the film. As for the plot, it was hard to believe that anybody in their right mind would follow Robert Hawkins around everywhere he went, but there had to be a camera man, right? Some of the acting was nothing to write home about, but it sufficed. The film was fairly realistic, like the ending for example. I hope people aren't going into the movie expecting some fairytale ending, or explanation (how could it be "known" where it came from and what it was, within the time it arrived and the time Hawkins and Beth died? Maybe from another persons perspective (gov. official or something) we would know or find out more, but not theirs, they were just pedestrians who happened to catch it all on tape). Seems more realistic to leave things unanswered. Also, I don't know if people are spoiled by amazing CGI nowadays, but Cloverfield had some of the best I've seen recently, and not just the monster. The overall demolition of NYC was surreal. It really felt (imo) like you were in the movie. That, regardless of the plot, was a sign of success to me.... I didn't get motion sickness at any point of the movie. I've gotten more sick from a "Medal of Honor" videogame than I have from this movie. Numerous shots were 'pretty' steady, almost to relieve the audience every now and then. Could see how some might get a little sick though.

^damn it! thanks for the spoiler alert.
and i read it one freakin minute before you edited it!![]()
sorry![]()
i edited my post
go see it anyways
Cloverfield is awesome! Best movie in years!
Cloverfield sucks worse than a Jennifer Lopez movie .
what faith points?
from a friend of mine: "At the very end of the movie/tape when it shows them at Coney Island for the last time, something falls into the water from the sky in the background."
anyone else catch that?
luv bones seriously that top in your avatar looks re ed
I just read on Yahoo that if they do a sequel it might be the same monster attack but from a different camera.
you are correct
and if you go to the viral marketing sites you can find out what exactly fell from the sky, I know what it was and again JJ Abrams is awesome
I think it is a complete rip-off of the movie Gojira minus the plot.
yea i just read about it elsewhere. the satellite thing? I really don't like that idea. i like the idea of the monster dropping from the sky, manifesting and growing for a month, and then coming out a lot better than things falling from the sky and disturbing a gigantic monster that was living in the ocean![]()
thats the thing you can use your imagination on this film, yes JJ Abrams did say the monster has been at the bottom of the ocean for a long time but he could be messing with you as well and that scene in the movie was in deed the monster falling from the sky.
Its the perfect way to get people to go back and see the movie again, more than half the people that saw it last night didn't even see the thing fall from the sky, I even missed it and I was looking for something because the camera was focused on the ocean for a long time but I missed it
Also not everyone stayed till the end of the credits to hear the distorted voice that says something like help us coming from Rob, so he could technically be alive
But again I can understand why some people don't like the movie, I'm just a big JJ Abrams fan so I knew going in to the movie that not all of the questions would be answered since this is from the perspective of civilians
Um, I'll say this.
Juno:elpimpo
as
Cloverfield:Spurminator
I hated this movie. I thought I was going to see an interesting new twist on a monster flick, instead I got some ing "The WB"-esque cheesy teen love story with a monster story as the backdrop. Seriously, I could have just DVRed "Gossip Girl" if I wanted to see a bunch of rich and fashionable 20-somethings bull .
If I wasn't with my wife and several friends, I would have walked out 45 minutes in, and I NEVER walk out of movies.
I thought it was good, it was a pretty original idea, and I'll give it credit for that.
The previously mentioned motion sickness is for real, like that never bothers me, but my buddy had to leave the movie, and it took a lot for me to sit through the whole movie. Its pretty comparable to The Host, but the camcorder does wear on you through the movie. The beginning was pretty slow, but the movie picks up a good pace halfway through. The monster is badass. I thought overall it was worth the money spent, although I would not see it again in theaters.
I don't ever get sea sick or motion sickness, not on cruises or boats or rollercoasters or airplanes, never have in my entire life, but I sat right at the freaking front of the theater and the shaking camera definitely got to me a little bit...I didn't read any reviews or spoilers.
Overall it could have been a halfway decent movie...it was definitely a neat idea and a nice spin on the classic giant monster movie...but making people nauseous is stupid...not many people like to be nauseated, it weakens whatever appeal the movie has.
rofl
i'm hearing 2:1 that they went wayy overboard with the moving camera . RO F L
Nothing like wasting a once-a-10-year viral marketing hype explosion on an overrated director's imitation of michael bay
I'm still going to pass on this one.
I fell for the viral marketing hype around The Blair Witch Project, and I have no intention of making the same mistake twice.
I was nauseous, but not from the moving camera.
cloverfield>>donnie darko.
I saw the movie this morning and I really enjoyed it. It was VERY intense and it did give you that feeling like you were really there holding that camera. I wasn't expecting it to end the way it did though (SCdac... remember what your spoiler said about people expecting a certain ending? That was me).
I didn't catch the Coney island part though...dangit. Oh well..I am sure I'll see it again.
And we didn't get sick during the movie (don't have that motion sickness problem) but the guy next to me kept having to put his head down and kept putting his hand on his forehead as if he had a headache.
Just got back from the movie, and it was a huge waste of time. It's a bunch of people running around for like 80 minutes. Perhaps ten minutes of cool action, and there rest of walking, plus the massively unnecessary twenty minute party scene. Not at quite the level of massive suck contained within Juno, but I'm pissed I spent nine bucks on it.
