I went and saw this movie tonight and I have to say it was actually pretty good. I worry when I see a movie that I think I'll like because I'm usually left disappointed.

Overall I enjoyed the cinematography and the story but as a little warning if you're prone to motion sickness don't eat before the movie because there were quite a few people complaining about the shaking camera making them sick

I do agree the mall scene was a little stupid.

Trying on the pants was funny though

I copied this from the other thread about this movie, sorry, Kori. I just really want to let people know how bad it was.

    OK guys and girls.

I just got back from seeing it at the Palladium as a sneak preview.

    It was AWFUL

Save your money, it was very bad.

I wont spoil it, but I will answer some questions that people were speculating.

    1. it IS like The Blair Wich Project. All first person, camcorder perspective, if you get
motion sickness, this probably isn't for you.

    2. You don't know what or where the monster came from, all you know is that it exists.

    3. This movie sucks, 110% hype. really folks, save your money.

Sorry to be a downer about all of this, I was really excited to see it too. Glad I saw it for free, because if I had paid for it, I would be really pissed right now.

Xoloto, how could you like that man?

Everyone in the theater I went to was either like "what the ?" or just plain pissed.

I felt kind of bad for the Paramount Rep that was there, she couldn't have felt comfortable showing everyone there that crap for a movie.

Naw man I'm not saying its the Godfather or anything, but it's definitely not the worst movie I've ever seen. Like I said in my first post I enjoyed the cinematography because even though it made me want to puke it just added realism.

I agree with some things you said like about the monster just appearing and not knowing where it came from is kinda dumb along with some other things that I wish were explained further.

Sounds like familiar work of JJ Abrams.

Awww C'mon!! Puulease tell me you are joking about the moving camera thing!!!??? I am looking forward to this movie. I noticed that in the previews, but was hoping that it wasn't like that throughout the whole movie. If thats the case I might not be able to sit thru that freakin movie!!!

I want to see it even if it's a waste of money. gotta see for myself, but hate movies with shaking cameras. That's what I hated Bourne Ultimatum.

Thank goodness that Bourne Ultimatum's moving cameras were only doing the fight scenes mostly. I could deal with that. But if this movie have those first person camera's like those video games have I might not be able to make it thru that movie and I'm being dead serious.

It's just a fictional company made up by JJ Abrams to take a role in his movies. From what I read on Wikipedia (I dont know how reliable it is)....

    MINOR SPOILER
they're the ones that hired the guy and the reason he was going to leave for Japan which is why the party was thrown.

I know its not a big deal to say that stuff but I just want to warn some people who want to go in not knowing anything

    Just saw this thing.

First off, all the warnings about motion sickness are absolutely for real. I usually never get motion sickness but I was about ready to vomit by the time the movie was over.

Overall, this movie was decent for what it was. A fun, stupid monster movie. I'd put this ahead of crap like Transformers because at least the dialogue isn't the most hideous selection of contrived, hamfisted words ever assembled. That's mainly because the only things people say are "oh !", "holy !", "oh my god!", and "what the was that?" but it's certainly alot better than watching Even Stevens fumble with ty lines declaring his undying love for a transforming sports car.

People with super high expectations are going to be disappointed as , along with anybody who put any stock in all that viral marketing.

So overall, it's not the greatest thing ever, but it doesn't suck as much as Transformers or whatever the lastest McG film is. For a big dumb "Godzilla" type movie, it's pretty decent. Bring a barf bag, but I think people will generally like this.

Nothing at all, apparently you're supposed to get the entire plot of the movie from all the viral marketing rather than the actual movie.

huh? So this is where the few people who didn't like cloverfield are! for those who haven't seen it and only read what others here have said let me say it's good. It's much like M. Night Shaymalan's work in that it's not a movie about a monster, it's a movie about a man who's in love with a woman and goes into to save her. For those of you who liked Signs you'll probably like this if the shaky cam doesn't bother you. It doesn't explain what happened, where it came from, or why it attacked. But why does it have to? Imagination is fun, leaving things unexplained is good. There isn't a happy ending, but i hate happy endings.

also juno was a great film.

Yeah, i got sick. And ive never heard parents and kids alike just yell out curses when the credits are shown, so that was interesting. Without the rocking-boat grade cinematography, id give it a C. With it, an F. When a big part of your audience cant even watch half the movie, you have a problem.

I liked the movie. It was never going to live up to the hype that it had the past year anyway. Fans of the big movies are always going to be disappointed when it gets released. The shaky cam didn't bother me. 15 minutes in I just got use to it.
