Where was Pop's comment on how ty a deal was when Shaq left the lakers. I didn't see him all in arms over that trade.
    That's because it wasn't a ty trade re .

Caron Butler, Lamar Odom and Brian Grant >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kwame Brown, Crittenton, Marc Gasol, bag of chips

You're comparing Odom and Butler to a bust and a couple of late, late first round picks who'll beat the odds if they're even in the league after 4-5 years. Butler is an all-star and Odom has been mentioned as being deserving in the past. I'd say of recent trades for all-star caliber players, a rapidly declining Shaq, KG, Allen and Gasol , the Lakers ripped off the other team far, far more than any of the others. Even a dumbass knows the Lakers stole Gasol (maybe with some inside help).

Pop was tongue in cheek about the trade committee. I'm pretty sure the part about incomprehensible he meant. I guess Rome is either too much of a moron to realize Pop was not being serious about that part. Either that or Rome figure it's always good for stirring up the cretins who listen to him.

Damn, I was hoping this would be about an actual fight between Pop and Jim Rome. CIA would finish what Jim Everett started.

How could the Shaq deal have been that bad for LA? After all, they got Butler, who helped them to acquire Kwame Brown, who (in turn) made it possible to acquire Pau Gasol.

They got Butler who is an all star, and Odom, at the time they traded for him, was all star quality.

Still don't see how it was bad.

I think what OP means is that people had the same kind of reaction to the Shaq-to-Miami deal that they're having now: "They traded Shaq for WHO?!?!?"

Hindsight is the only thing that makes that trade actually pretty balanced...Butler certainly wasn't a constant 30 point threat back them like he is now, evidenced by the fact that he got traded for Kwame ing Brown. Not many people suspected Odom was as good as he has turned out to be as well.

The difference between the trades in my mind is that the Gasol deal couldn't be a balanced trade unless Crittenton turned into the next Kobe or something.

Who hacked into Medvedenko's account? That take is so bad that I have to believe it's someone trying to act like a Laker Fan to try to get a laugh.

Actually Pop said it was like when the Soviet empire crumbled when Shaq left, losing a great adversary.

The fact that Laker fans actually think Pop was serious about the trade committee is another testament to their stupidity which is surpassed by no other fandom.

No one hacked into my account...just trying to illustrate the hypocrisy and how trades of this magnitude can't be judged in the now.

I don't understand why Laker Fan even tries to explain the trade. The trade isn't defensible. No question.

If I'm Laker Fan, I would get the best rise out of other fans by straight up admitting the deal was shady (I love how Mitch "Cupcake" goes from being one of the worst GMs in years to scoring a blockbuster trade "out of the blue"...) and just laugh about how the league won't do anything about it anyhow.

C'mon, don't try to act all classy and such. Stay true to your roots and your words will carry more weight.

Laker Fan: Yeah, there was collusion, so what? We're the Lakers. Deal with it.

Doesn't that have a better ring to it?

Spoken like a true Laker Fan.

    Collusion....ok sure....

Look I'll admit that I was giddy like school girl when I heard about this trade, no doubt. My beef isn't with the actual trade and how we raped the Grizz, it's smug Pop's reaction to the whole thing.

Dude, we don't need to wait a few seasons before we judge Kwame Brown, Crittenton, and Marc Gasol. There is no way that trio will ever be anywhere near as good as Butler, Odom and Grant. Kwame is a disaster, Crittenton has a relatively low ceiling, and when Pau was Marc's age, he had already been rookie of the year and was averaging 18 and 8.

I look at it as Pop is just a BAMF. He said what every other GM in the league is thinking! He has the rings that he can talk any kind of he wants and get away with it. That and coupled with the fact that he doesn't give a about the media or other people's opinions...

Do we all need a history lesson...with Shaq, the Lakers were a finals threat...without him the next season we were in the lottery. Where was Pop then.....

Of course you can't compare player by player and their impact, I'm not that dense. It's for illustration purposes. What about the Caron trade for Kwame, and there are numerous trades that have happened in the last 10 years that Pop would have denied if his little committee was around. I just like to point out how much of a he is for making those statements.

Well Pop was asked how he felt about it... Even before Pop reacted the Griz came out and defended themselves because of what the trade looked like..

You claim to be upset about hypocrisy yet you're bothered about Pop's smug reaction?

    Two things:

    1) A brief history of time: First, the earth cooled. Then, Phil Jackson invented smug reactions. Hypocrisy indeed.

    2) Pop abhors talking to the press. I can count on one hand over his tenure how many times he's spoken publicly about such things. Good thing for you I guess.

What is stupidity is Spurs fans trying to say that pop was just joking but they constantly harp on what he had to say. If he was joking, why not just say it and be done with it. I haven't read anywhere where he said he was joking, maybe you can provide a link?
