where's the rule that says you can't have a future Tony-Beno backcourt?
having a 1-2 punch at 6'-2" & 6'-3" gives up a bunch on defense...Nelson might do it but I seriously doubt Pop would consider it unless he was going small because the matchup allowed it...

Yeah, I understand that, and Pop is probably the last coach who'd ever get creative with a short backcourt.

My point is that it's not something that you can just dismiss because it wouldn't work. What about the matchup problems the other way? What 2 guard in the league wants to guard TP?

20 years ago a trial run for a TP-Beno backcourt would have been a no-brainer. Somehow, it's now become mandated that your 2 has to be 6'5" or bigger.

Why there are so many posts about trading someone in the spurs roster?
It is already the best team in the NBA.

I am not trying to pick a fight...I really like Beno...but 20 years ago we didn't have the 2's in the league that could and would step back and drain 3's....and height is a definite advantage in putting pressure on perimeter shots...

This thread started because Duff was thinking about Beno while he was in the shower rubbing one out.

not that there is anything wrong with that...

    Again, understood, and I agree.

Maybe it wouldn't work. But you never know what will actually happen until you try it.

You know its good to be a Spurs fan when the biggest forum controversy of the day is whether we will be able to re-sign our backup point guard in 2008.
Actually, push will come to shove quicker than that. His year 4 option must be picked up before year 3 starts, which will be late Oct/early Nov 2006. If they don't pick that up, he loses value as an UFA in 2007. If they do, they'd need to trade him during year 3, because year 4 would be a one year contract, meaning no trade.

Believe me, I'd love to live in Candy Land where all players are re-signed, but that ain't where we reside. You people want him back, but he's going to get paid by someone. I think it would take at least a Malik type of deal to keep him, and you people are screaming about that contract for a forward that averaged 10.4/6.4 in the first year of his new deal. Beno is averaging 6 points and 2.1 assists. He's probably not going to see a lot more time in this system, and as efficient as he's been, that means the numbers probably don't go up much. Prepare to scream just as much for any deal Beno would get as you do about Malik's.

Um, folks --we've already seen Parker/Beno on the floor a few times this season.

We only have four players under contract for Beno's RFA year, so you can't really say upon whom the Spurs will be spending. The new rules make it much easier to run smaller lineups anyway, and they aren't changing back.

Why would any team over the cap pass up a $2.7 million option on a guard who will supposedly be worth much more?

Let's just slow our collective roll. Last week we were losing Devin to a super-MLE deal -- what's his market value this week?

If we traded him to Dallas, they could have a team of:

    Dirk
    BENO
    Armstrong
    Terry
    Harris

    Small ball at it's finest.
