Adonis Jordan?
not Laettner. His fellow freshman teammate Crawford Palmer really sucked, and probably truned out the most overrated player from the class. Palmer was a top 30 recruit.
not Williams. I don't think he played his freshman year because of academic problems.
Maybe I misunderstood the question, but I thought we're going back to what the Sporting News thought about these guys before they entered college, not what we all might think of them now. Robert Horry hadn't participated in any NBA les as of the summer of 1988, so I don't see how it's somehow offensive to think that he might have been seen (humorously in retrospect) as the most overrated player in his freshman class.
That story would be more poignant 20 years later than a prediction that Sam Mack or Eric Riley would be the most-overrated freshman of 1988.
Just tell us who you think it is...this is entirely subjective and boils down to your opinion of who you think was the most over-rated...
the heralded Todd Day is not the answer. he came in with Lee Mayberry and Oliver Miller at Arkansas.
billy owens, billy owens, billy owens, billy owens
Michael Jackson?
Yes...and per usual when you are arguing about his HOF status, you don't seem to get that Horry's got quite a list of achievements in the NBA.
First player in NBA history with a hundred blocks, a hundred steals and a hundred threes in a single season.
In closing...how many of those guys mentioned in that article are still in the NBA?
Is your question about an after-the-fact analysis or a before-they-played guess? I'm really confused because the question seemed to ask who was predicted to be the most overrated player in the class. Your responses are entirely backward looking, though.
or the opposite, I figured this was about making a mockery of scouting publications and such
Billy Dee Williams?
This thread is absolutely re ed.
This is not a subjective question. It is a question regarding the '88 colllege preview issue.
and in the wrong forum.
never heard of him. He was probably overrated, but that isn't the answer.
Again, I'm not arguing about Horry's HOF credentials.
I guess I just don't understand the question. I'm taking myself back 20 years to think about who might have been predicted to be overrated and in the process of offering guesses, I'm being castigated for statements that I'm not even making!!
Gugs? Good guess, but nada.
Then why does suggesting Robert Horry imply that I think he's overrated?
And what the ever happened to that hint?
