Its a regular season game, if the playoffs started today, we'd be facing the Mavs.
I'd rather face the Rockets.
No use trying to salvage a terribly played game at the cost of piling on more minutes for the big 3. That's the only possible explanation i can think of.

It can't be argued that it wasn't a weak offensive lineup. Combined 4-18?? C'mon.
It was a WEAK lineup when they needed a scoring punch. And they were playing against utah's 1st team -- so it was basically 2's vs. 1's.
In addition, TP was the only player with balls in the whole 3rd Q. He had started to get fired up and was taking on the hard contact that is utah bball: earning FTs and scoring at the hoop.
Then Pop sits TP to start the 4th.
And only THEN-- after the scrubs couldn't score for 5 minutes -- was the game too far out of reach to play Timmy or Tony.

Absolutely. They are the weakest playoff team in the West and the Spurs match up with them well. I'd rather the Spurs have an easier first round, even if it means giving up home court in the semis or WCF.
Jazz saw the way the game was being called and played accordingly. They had terrific defense and 5 hatchets in the lane. When the Spurs stopped hitting their outside shots and wouldn't commit to winning the boards, Pop had no choice.
I had to scratch my head over Sloan, the Sr. coach in the league, playing his starters until 2:12 left in the game.
Uh, sorry, you don't play any of your guys over 35 mins unless the game is close.
9 points down with 12 min to go.
No one had close to 35 minutes going into the 4th.
The game was definitely winnable going into the 4th, if there were some scoring happening.
The defense was very good until that 4th Q lineup.
Then there was the combo of bad defense + no scorers = 26 point blowout.
Pop what were you thinkin'?

Spurs had a bad game against a good team that has the best home record in the league. It happens. The season is not over. Sometimes you need an embarrassing loss to get the team focused again. GO SPURS GO !!!!
All true but it doesn't say anything about that piss-poor lineup Pop used to bring us back from 9 POINTS going into the 4th.
Pop can't be screwing around. Tough game at the Rose Garden coming up. Then a home game against the Suns. Suns and Rockets are only 1 game behind in the loss column...screw around and a 5/6 seed might be coming and first round without HCA against Utah/Suns/Lakers might happen.
They were only down 10 points, I really don't get this one.
@ at the forum coaches rearing their heads again.
There is cowardly over-reacting and there is being overconfident. I just know we have lost by 20+ to the Hornets, twice, and now blasted by the Jazz. I wonder if there is a convenient way to analyze how many times we get blown out by 20 each year.
"Something about Pop's fart commanded T Park to inhale and exclaim that he had never smelled a fart quite as delicious as that one...even though it only scored 64 points."
Tony played the whole 3rd quarter. Vaughn is going to have to come in at some time. Pop had to give Parker a break. I think this is cherrypicking the facts. We didn't lose because of that one lineup, we lost because they had already taken control of the game with our starters on the court.
Or maybe its I just don't play the stupid card and go the coach route 100% of the time.
Nahh, much more intelligent to bang the coach.
Great one Kermit, keem em comin, FRESH stuff!!!!
Pop is smart...he does not want the 1 or 2 seed and risk playing the Mavs...thus avoiding losing in the first round...expect the Spurs to get the 3 seed![]()
That's what I was thinking. Oh well, at least I TIVO'ed the game, so, when I saw it get up by 20 or so, I just fast-forwarded until I saw Damon Stoudemire enter the game. That's the equivalent to the fat lady singing.
We'll just watch as you guys get ousted by another "inferior" opponent.![]()
No. You play the ball fluffer role 100% of the time. You're more predictable tha Sequ. It's not a bad thing and most of the time you're right, but after a 26 point beat down where Pop put a questionable lineup on the floor, second guessing his decisions is warranted.
Pop is smart because he knows the Mavs want to play the Spurs, so he's letting the Spurs lose so they go to the 3 seed, and so by doing that he wants to see if the Mavs can actually win some games now. If they do, they get a Spurs ownage. If they don't, consider them done.
Although I'm not calling for Pop's head like some of you, when the Spurs were down 9 heading to the fourth, after the two quick baskets from the Jazz (to push it to 13), I would have put Tony-Tim-Bowen back in to see if they could get them back in the game. Down 13 with 10 minutes to go isn't an impossible come back. But Pop opted to let the reserves try to get it done (even putting in B Jones) and the Jazz rolled on the them.
I think that the Jazz would have won anyway. But if I were coaching I would have given the starters another 4 minutes of playing time right after that time out to try to turn it around.
When you have a physical team like Utah, I can understand Pop not wanting to invest too much mins on the main guys especially when the game seemed out of reach. With 11 days to go before the season ends , his main concern would be on keeping the team healthy , while still rolling.
Of course, I understand that too. That's a fine line you have to walk. But every loss is important in the standings. I still would have given them a few more minutes.
