Going into crunch time, Spurs had already missed 7 FTs, and missed 3 more to keep the game out of reach. Same ol' Spurs, as sure as death and taxes.

Tim's FTs are a huge black mark on his career.

Tony almost shot two consecutive FT airballs, barely touching the front of the rim. ridiculous.

Spurs defense allowed Hou to score 25 pts in 4th qtr, their best quarter by far in the entire game.

The Spurs .... up so many ways it's not funny.

Next week's got tough 3 games, anybody for 0-3 next week?
Folks, if you think about it. Road game, 2nd of back to back. 4th quarter, Spurs were pretty gassed. I thought TP played his heart out.

    "I know he was sick"

When was he sick? sick with what? when? for how long? Is he still sick?

I know we like to say the Spurs are deep (in big wins) , but when the game isn't a big win, then when Tim Duncan struggles, the Spurs crater.

Listen, I am by far one of the biggest Spurs homers around, it just seems like Groundhog day on road vs. beatable teams this year with an otherwise damm good team.

Tired, sloppy defensive game that is Spurs/Rockets.

The best prescription for everyone in here is to get some rest, wash some clothes, do some dishes, go to church, shoot hoops in the driveway, get up a 3 on 3 game and show everyone how easy it is for you to play and not mess up like those Spurs do.

The worse loss of the year will be the one that eliminates the Spurs from the Playoffs. Spurs played 1 good quarter then stopped playing alltogether.

I'm not sure what game you watched. Both teams put up a tremendous defensive effort and couldn't convert on the offersive end. The Spurs were pathetic on offense, but the Rockets helped to make it that way.

    1) The back to back of excuse them they are tired is a tired excuse.

No Spur played extensive minutes last night. Dirk went 47 and is probably starring tonight. Iverson went 48 friggin minutes yesterday after being too ill to play and having shoulder contusion last week and probably doing better than
    Duncan today.

    2) I will take TParks px to let it go now.

This isn't the worst loss of the year, we just happen to lose to bad teams often.

We shouldn't lose to good teams, and the spurs did that twice to the Sonics, so the worst loss of the year is the 1 in the 19-1 record.

Anything he called on offense the last three quarters.
Yea right this is Pops fault and the all the players not named Tony Parker had nothing to do with it. Open your ing eyes. Where the was Duncan? Answer: getting punked by Yao and J Howard. How the does he make $14M a year and disappear in games like this. David Robinson would have stepped up. Have some in pride Tim. If your injured then admit it and sit out a few games.

It's the same old story, really. Spurs have two different teams: the one where they play hard D, hustle for rebounds, have good ball movement, and an unstoppable TD in the middle and driving TP and Manu. This team is BEST IN THE LEAGUE.

But then there's this other team that plays like they're lost, or didn't show up for the game, like they don't know who their teammates are. And they lose, every time.

I hope the first team picks up some speed heading into the playoffs.

Spur's lost to an improving Rocket's team in Houston and without Manu. It doesn't seems to me that this one is worst than any other Spur's loss.
I am much more worried about Tim Duncan latest games but we can only hope that it will not last and that he will play again like an MVP.
About POP I just think that he has a clear gameplan and he hates to change it. It' is always the same, Tony make his run in the third and then he has no play run for him in the 4th when Tim and Manu steps up.
The problem was that against Houston neither Manu (injured) nor Tim were giving points to the Spurs . Why POP didn't give more opportunities to tp to carry this team to the victory? He was the only one playing basket ball tonight.
I am just looking for Duncan to improve his game because without that championship is just a fool's hope.

How many years does this have to happen before you guys learn to live with it. The Spurs don't play consistent ball until March. Every year it's the same thing, they play well enough in December and January to hang around the top half of the league. They don't hit their stride until March. Fortunately, they happen to be winning some games and are at the top of the league. C'mon people, wait until March to really be concerned.

This is the curse of being a fan. When we lose I know I have to , it used to be to my wife, now it's on this forum. I understand we have to lose some games, what bothers me is that guys don't step up with the game on the line, last night, Barry passed up some open shots as did Tony and Devin and Bowen, and finally an off Duncan has to force a shot up or make a bad play with the shot clock winding down. In 99 we had Elie who would take that shot, in 03 it was Kerr and no-no-yes yes Sjax. I think Manu is not intimidated but I don't know, otherwise, close games are going to come down to this, getting the ball in to TD with 3 or 4 guys hanging on him, man that's not right. MVP or not that's a tough sell for anyone.

whats rediciolus is acceptance of a loss to an inferior opponent...i guess losing 4 straight after being up 2-0 is acceptable to. I just hope the team especially TIM DUNCAN doesnt accept loses as easily as some people around here, MJ never did.

For those of you accepting the losses, the Spurs are 0-2 against two western conference teams Seattle and Houston. In all four games the constant was indifference by TIM DUNCAN.

And for those of you who say wait until March...past performance is no guarentee of future excellence.

The Spurs laid an egg offensively and you can credit Houston's length, Mutombo's strong presence - he really bothered Tim, actually every Spur. As expected Malik was too short for this Houston front line, Horry isn't that great of a rebounder any way, and Tim was out of the lane frequently - particularly on the outside-shooting Taylor.

The Spurs didn't make in-game adjustments as well as Houston did. Houston doubled the ball and even sent 2 extras sometimes at Tim with very active hands. Sura stripped the ball twice and shouldn't have been called for fouls. Those were great adjustments and the Spurs weren't crisp in their passes. Houston bogged them down and the Spurs couldn't shoot their way out of it. No rhythm and some of the guys shied away from shooting when they had an opening.

It was a stinker offensively. The Spurs clearly lost their legs in the 4th.

It was an outstanding defensive effort for the most part. I mean...what can you say? The combined 58 points in the first 24 minutes matched the fourth-lowest first half in the shot clock era.

    Some quotes:

"Their defense is unbelievable," said McGrady, who made just 10-of-28 shots.

"You like to play aesthetically pleasing and win, but the other team impacts your offense," said Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy, who has guided the Rockets to consecutive wins over the Spurs for the first time since 1997. "We benefited from them playing back-to-back twice (when we've beaten them)."

"He had a huge impact on the game, protecting the basket, rebounding the ball, getting us some extra possessions," Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "Duncan is obviously a monster. Dikembe fought him hard."

"I played great," Mutombo said. "The reason I was brought here was to play defense, block a shot. They see me coming (and say), 'Mutombo's in the game, watch out.' I like that."

"Their defense was very tough on Timmy," said San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich, who saw his team held 30 points below its season average. "They made it very tough on him."

"When we play Houston, this is how it goes," Duncan said. "You grind it out and whoever makes the shots at the end is the one who wins."

All the Spurs can do is review the breakdowns and try to adjust better the next time they play them....and move on. It's an 82-game season and they have another tough opponent at 4 PM on Monday.

It was a road game, also. And yes, good teams win road games, but I dont remember the Spurs winning big road games last year until their annual 7-9 game road trip. They didnt even do that the year they won it all. This is the time of year where the spurs win a few lose 1 win two lose 1 win 1 lose 2, etc. it happens every year. its happening right now, it happened last year, and it even happened two years ago. Have some faith. If its meant for us to get better and win the championship, then it will happen. We cant change destiny. They never play their best basketball until after the all-star break. I know alot of ppl have been saying how good theyve been playing and blah blah blah. They are not playing up to their full potential yet, and if they start to like they have over the past several years, then other teams better watch out.

all I got to say is that it is easy to complement the other team when you beat them

I just wonder if the complements would have come if the Spurs would have won this game by 1 point?

if the opposition makes adjustments to Tim to lock him up, then Tim needs to make adjustments and quicker desicions to get easy inside baskets for his team mates.

"complements would have come if the Spurs would have won this game by 1 point?"

Winning the DAL game was a ty win, see Spurs in 4th qtr. The benefit was the Spurs didn't totally collapse in the 4th qtr, and Manu hit his FTs in crunch, win salvaged, ugly as .

Had the Spurs won last night @HOU, it would have been a ty win, since the Spurs played ty all game. Missing 10 FTs, 3 missed in crunch time, in a low-scoring game is suicide.

Get ready for another loss, this one at home. The Wizards aren't my team, even though they're my hometown team. Been against them ever since they brought miracle-man Jordan to ruin them for several years. Not over that blunder yet.

But all that aside, this is a young, aggressive, fundamentally sound team with strengths at every position, inluding off the bench.

The Spurs better forget the Houston loss and focus on a team that may be the team to beat this year.

"team with strengths at every position"

Wiz allow the most PPG of any team, so Eddie doesn't have them playing defense (which makes wonder whether Eddie was really he guy, as rumored when he left for WAS, behind Byron's 2 defense-oriented Finals appearances with the Nets).

So the Wiz are no different from all other top/better teams: they try to outscore you but don't really make an effort on the other end.

Spurs are unique, to the point of being weird, among the top teams in emphasis on defense-first.

Note that LAL/playoffs beat SA with defense, not offense. And of course DET 04 and Spurs 03 won it with defense/offense total.
