The one that recently won a gold medal in basketball?
hmm... which city might that be, Einstein?
The one that recently won a gold medal in basketball?
Big ass city
The one that puts "los spurs" on their uniforms and has a mariachi band shout in spanish on ESPN when going to break, sherlock.hmm... which city might that be, Einstein?
...and to clarify, we're not discussing the success of basketball in your city, we're discussing the apathetic at ude of the fans. The one that recently won a gold medal in basketball?
As am I. I live in Portland so, naturally, I was a Blazers fan in my youth. But Robinson was drafted out of the Naval Academy, and my Dad was a sailor for 20 years so I became a Spurs fan in 89 because of Robinson. Over the last 19 years my love for the Spurs has grown exponentially.
So I guess I'm an "Admiral bandwagoner" as well.
But if that were true, shouldn't I have stopped being a Spurs fan after the '03 championship?
I have been to three sports bars since I've been back in San Antonio during Spurs games and they were packed.
I was disappointed to see that there were tickets still available for game three at tip off but game four is sold out.
Thursday night games with a late tipoff in a blue collar town is tough. Two of my buddies that are hardcore Spurs fans didn't go to the game because they had to be up at 5am the next morning. I know it's only sleep but for me, it's difficult to wind down after a Spurs win. It takes me a couple of hours.
The support is here. It will never be the like the first time. But if they repeat, I think it might come close.
You do realize that I'm Argentinian, right Holmes?![]()
I don't care if you're Romanian, we're talking about san antonio.
Wait... is someone from NO really trying population dynamic smack????
hahahaha
no, i'm from baton rouge. and yes, I am, senorWait... is someone from NO really trying population dynamic smack????
racist .

well then stop referring to it as MY city. Call it San Antonio. Not all Spurs fans are from SA. Get that through your head.
by the way, how in the are you trying to say the city of San Antonio can't grasp the concept of basketball when it has had more success at it than NO EVER will?
Yes, success is pertinent to this discussion whether you want to acknowledge it or not![]()
Gee... I wonder why you want to leave success out of the picture... could it be because it destroys your whole ing argument? Could be
as with life, it is so easy to call someone a racist on here and have that hold more water than when the person says "i'm not a racist", but, I am in no way a racist. I have no hatred towards spanish people or their culture. However, I do have a problem when a city or organization bends over backwards to embrace another countries immigrants (regardless of legality), when it seems that the same is not reciprocated. You don't know english? NO PROBLEMO! We'll just say things in spanish to make you feel more welcome. I really don't see it happening that way if Americans would go to another country with similar numbers. Americans would have to change their ways and adapt.racist .

So my problem lies with the city, not with the races.
believe me, I'm just as much against illegal immigration as you are, but this is an argument that has NOTHING to do with the Spurs or the topic at hand, and belongs in the Politics board.
unless you're trying to city-smack, which is lameee.

You're changing the argument. The entire point of this thread is about the fans lack of support after championships, NOT how successful the team is. That's why we leave success out the picture.Gee... I wonder why you want to leave success out of the picture... could it be because it destroys your whole ing argument? Could be
So, New Orleans is all about America and American culture? Nothing French about it, right?
then don't accuse people of being racistsbelieve me, I'm just as much against illegal immigration as you are
I ammmmmmm sooooo iiiiii guesssss i'mmmm lameeeeeeunless you're trying to city-smack, which is lameee.

ok, first of all, nice job on the whole "derailing" of the thread thing. Props. Second, you're talking out of your ass. English is the universal language. Every country I've been to, and I've been to quite a few, has accommodated english into their culture in one way or the other.
By the way, I love the city smack, specially since when Spurs fans bring it out, the automated response is "How dare you? People died here"... pathetic
It's actually a blend of a bunch of different cultures which gives us our own. It's cajun and creole and it is unique to the city. So, New Orleans is all about America and American culture? Nothing French about it, right?
I have never and will never use the "people died here argument" - that is a promise. Bars stayed open during Katrina.
You understand America is a melting pot for all cultures and races, right?
The point of the IS the fans lack of support after championships, that is true... but it has nothing to do with San Antonio not grasping the concept of basketball. It is certainly an idiotic thing to say, when your city hasn't accomplished in the NBA. The lack of support doesn't come from lack of understanding, its clearly something else.
You're killing me. Alright, I didn't think we would still have to do this, but...The point of the IS the fans lack of support after championships, that is true... but it has nothing to do with San Antonio not grasping the concept of basketball. It is certainly an idiotic thing to say, when your city hasn't accomplished in the NBA. The lack of support doesn't come from lack of understanding, its clearly something else
when you asked "why does this happen?" in reference to the fans lack of support, I stated "b/c the majority of your inhabitants can't grasp a sport where the ball goes into the net using your hands rather than your feet". Once again, this does not mean that your basketball team does not grasp the concept of basketball, it means that the influx of mexican futbol fans in the city since 1999 PROBABLY has something to do with the decreased amount of SUPPORT for the team since then. Comprende?
