    The problem with Odom is his versatility. We don't need a jack-of-all trades kind of player on this team. We need someone who can come into the SF spot and play hard nosed defense and shoot well enough from the field to give proper spacing.

    Odom's defense is average at the SF spot
    , his shooting is barely average, and his rebounding and interior strengths will be minimized at the SF position. It's not about getting equal talent back for Odom, it's about finding pieces that fit.
    No it isn't. If it was, he'd play a lot more minutes there. He's just too slow now to defend the wing.

    Odom is very important for the Lakers. Unless you can find a decent 3rd big man. Gasol+Bynum is a flawed combination, you need a quality 3rd big - with certain traits and skill-set that Odom matches - to make that big man rotation work.
