What they’re gonna try and do is run a “Trump, but smart!” candidate like Josh Hawley whos just as crazy as Trump but is Ivy League educated and well spoken, I’m just not sure if that’s enougn to drive enthusiasm. The mere fact that Trump is crazy doesn’t drive turnout, his willingness to say crazy and act like an angry reckneck who shouts loudly about MS-13 rapists is what unlocked so many new voters. Josh Hawley running on a populist message but expressing it in a calm and eloquent way isn’t going to get the enthusiasm from Billy Bob Aggie that Trump got.

I’m not sure if the rallies didn’t do . Trump increased GOP turnout to record levels and found voters Republicans didn’t even know existed. It’s unfortunate but his campaign message of incoherent white grievance and conspiracy theories works really well with uneducated white Americans.
