That's even sadder. Could totally add in tight-ends, and defensive linemen to the mix if you went 15s. I can understand why Union isn't palatable here, even though I prefer it to sevens. It looks too much like soccer on TV, but it doesn't have the same ethnic support, so it can't even be an alternative sport. But sevens seem perfect for the American viewing experience (short, lots of scoring, limited stoppages).

Maybe the issue is that it's TOO short. No way to really broadcast it.

wow. gasol had a clutch block but missed two free throws that would've put them up by 3 with 20 seconds to go.

How is Carmelo the leader of this team?
Cousins could be the "leader" of the team & it won't matter.

Japan just upset the All-Blacks in rugby. Amazing. And yeah, may as well discuss that sport here too, as it's not going to get enough attention to warrant its own thread.
They beat South Africa in the world cup (which is WAY more compe ive than the OLY) & half their players aren't Japanese.

Japan's rugby is growing. They defeated the Springboks in the last WC.
They are upping their recruiting game:

USA was about to get a Super Rugby franchise (the best rugby clubs tournament in the world) but they weren't able to guarantee a high-level roster.
Shyt would be like the Galaxy being the Champions League.

Did you watch that game? Whether it didn't mean as much or not, it was a slugfest.

If it were so easy, we'd be better at it than we seem to be. I mean, , we even have a Samoa to call our own.

He needs to save his legs for the June so it's fine if Spain gets bounced early.

Yeah, Samoas are ditching Football & chasing their rugby dreams to play for a minimum wage.
Not like you get paid for the national teams anyway.

How is Carmelo the leader of this team?
Well most of the team said he was. He has age and experience. Durant has some of that but he's not a leader.

Track & field athletes that compete on European circuits have to work part time to support themselves b/c they ain't getting a dime from the federation.

Most female soccer/basketball players barely make 50K despite it being more popular in the US than Rugby.

Meanwhile, British athletes get pampered despite being mediocre in international tournaments. Japan is definitely recruiting those Samoans/Kiwis by opening up the checkbook just like Qatar/Bahrain are now fielding world-class track athletes of Nigerian decent.

Whenever they qualify for a tournament or win a medal, federations of other countries pay their athlete pretty good money.

Yes, it's a shame. As I said, I wish rugby were bigger here. But it ain't. And maybe that's a good thing, as we haven't seen the quality fall into the toilet with like the NFL.

All this rugby talk in a basketball thread. Whatever takes the focus off Gashole's massive choke job against the Brazilians. If it was Parker though, There would be 5 pages of nothing but Patty >>>> Parker.

It's not like Gashole got outplayed by his backups unlike Porker.

Pau is carrying a bunch of corpse while Porker is freezing out Batum.

Nah, this started before Spain's game. It just didn't make sense to put it in its own thread. I couldn't care less what anyone does in the basketball tourney. We know how it's going to end.
