In case anyone cares - Why he was chose:
Because he is not only a qualified, experienced doctor, but a TV-friendly personality who is good at explaining medical issues to the American People. As Obama is looking to try and make a major change to our broken health care system, this will be vitally important to have. The Surgeon General is hired to be the face of the medical system in a president's government, and to advise the American people on medical issues the president decided are important.

That's why he was chosen. IMHO, it was a very good selection.

Also, I'm glad Atul Gawande (www.gawande.com) wasn't chosen, because my partner is currently working with him and we don't want him to go off to Washington D.C.

If Gupta's Surgeon General, shouldn't Keiffer Sutherland get the CIA job?

I think Gupta would be OK

Y'all do know that the Surgeon general is mostly a figurehead position with little ability to affect policy, right?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surgeon..._United_States

    Sheesh.

The fact that Gupta is semi-famous is actually a bonus.

This particular position requires about as much administrative skill as managing a very small business.

    Much ado about nothing.
