I see him as the poor man's version of David Lee. Just hope he's healthy enough to play hard in the playoffs.

If healthy enough, I see him being a monster on offense with Duncan next to him. Dude is great at the putbacks. That is something Spurs never had since DRob
Its funny to watch the cattle call. a couple of guys post that he has a low BBIQ or can't play defense and everyone stampedes right off the cliff with the same info ....... as if they have some special knowledge.
Truth be known he is a decent defender but with the Spurs it is not about your man to man defense but your team defense. Even if he was as bad as some make believe the team defense scheme would mask any short comings due to his athleticism. From that point you add the good being rebouding and low post scoring which will help the three point shooters when Tim is not in the game.

when will we see him anyway? Friday vs. Washington?
well, I decided to do a bit of research on Gooden's supposed defensive deficiencies. i found a bunch of posts on Cavs fan message boards where people discussed this weakness, and it mostly concerned his problems with defensive rotations. it wasn't that he lacked effort, but just that he maybe seemed a little dense.
hopefully he will learn the spurs' defensive schemes quickly and be able to execute well enough to avoid pop's wrath. we need him on the floor. we need those boards and we need another post scorer.
ME next to Duncan > Gasol.
In fact, Lucky the Leprechaun next to Duncan > Gasol.
Basically, Duncan >>> Gasol.
And I'll even say that Gooden + Bonner > Bynum.
The West playoffs are starting to look very exciting.
Get healthy, Manu.
Speaking of when Gooden suits up- Let's review 2 things we think are true:
1. Many if us were doubtful Gooden was seriosuly injured or else why would Spurs sign him. It would be extremely risky, which is unlike the Spurs, to just put him in the playoffs without playing with the guys first.
2. We also know there are reports he's injured, even some indicating he has a sports hernia that will require surgery.
Okay, I was depressed thinking if he requires surgery, that would mean he would be out at least 6 weeks. So, how great is signing him up if he won't even have a chance to gel with the guys and the rotations.
HOWEVER, if he undergoes LAPROSCOPIC surgery for the Sports Hernia, recovery time is one week. It's is a very minimally invasive surgery. Whoop, there it is! If he requires surgery, my bet is it's Laproscopic and he'll be suiting up in 2-3 weeks.
I'm in a much better mood now. Will be in a better mood if he doesn't require surgery and we see him suited up earlier. We'll know more tonight.
Go Spurs!
