I don't really care if ads are put on jerseys or not. What I want to know is will the jerseys look like European soccer unis (with the sponosr featured prominently) or like Arena football or NFL Europe jerseys (with smaller patches)?

I wouldn't see a problem with it, so long as the "SPURS" is still the dominant part of the uniform, and the owners are able to pass at least some of the profit along to the fans.

For example, I do not particularly enjoy paying $10 for some popcorn and a drink. With millions comming in off the adds, there would be less of a need to rape us for cash via the food.

There comes a point when the potential profit of a situation outweighs the morality of it. Something tells me NBA owners wouldn't pass on a few hundred million just to keep the NBA "like the good ole' days."

I can just see the silouhette of Jerry West in the NBA logo, suddenly decked out with Nike shoes, dribbling a Spalding b-ball, Starter athletic wear, and a tall, cool, refreshing Diet Coke in his off hand. With the advent of things like Tivo, which allow people to skip commercials altogether advertisers are going to do whatever it takes to get the ads into the games themselves. I wouldn't mind them selling a little space on the jersey's but if a team sells it's name? That's too far in my mind. Although I think it would present a wonderful new forum for the Beer and Cola Wars to spill into. "Welcome to tonight's match-up between the Seattle Sprites and the Detroit Pepsis."

It would suck. Besides computer nerdz like us don't need stupid ad's we are smart enough to figure out what / when we need to buy. Ad's are for idiots.

[QUOTE=Kori Ellis]So you wouldn't mind the Spurs eventually being named The Valero San Antonio Spurs?
    (QUOTE]

I most definitely would. I think it is a stupid idea and here is why:
For the most part, people already drop the San Antonio, and say the Spurs. The added company name will never stick. Give it up people!

Okay, let's start having some fun with this thread.

Kobe Bryant and the Lakers, brought to you by Kleenex (much more effective if the Lakers ever find there way back into the playoffs).

I think it would totally be over the line to put adds on team jerseys. The only thing I could see happening is if they let RBK or Nike put their tiny RBK or swoosh logos on the jerseys like on golf shirts. But that is absolutely the limit! Let advertisers read these forums! I will personally stop buying from any brand that puts it's name on a Spurs jersey!!! GRRRRRRRR!!!!

Intresting- wasn't it last year the NBA outright refused the overtures from Federal Express to buy the Grizz when they were on their way to Memphis? FedEx was going to change the name of the team to the Express and dress them in purple & orange jerseys (FedEx's colors). They were also going to give the NBA a huge pile of cash to do it, and the league outright refused.

It has already happened in football, so I gues the NBA can't be that far away. The Bears are officially known as "The Chicago Bears sponsored by Bank One."

    ugh.

I know it (corporate advertising) will eventually happen, but I hate that crap. I even hate Bowl Games with the big corporate sponsorships.
Amen. I can live with stadiums being named (although I don't like it) but not all over the uniforms or a team name. I could live with a swoosh or reebok logo but not like the Euro jerseys.

The NBA is one of the very few major league worldwide that doesn't have advertising on jerseys. I dont buy my local basketball teams merchandise because it has "BankWest" (Australian Bank) plastered all over it which makes it look just house. I won't buy Spurs merchandise if it has a huge logo of some company on it like those pathetic looking european soccer jerseys. The National Basketball Compe ion even has advertising all over the floor, ugggh.

I wouldn't mind a Reebok sign in the top corner, nothing wrong with that, but any further and I won't be buying any Spurs jerseys.

You'd be a fool to believe that ticket and food prices will go down due to the team being sponsored.

it's not like the attendance is 50%. as long as there are people willing to pay high prices for seats tell me a reason why they would lower them?

Can anyone Photoshop a Spurs Jersey with the Kotex logo on it, yeah I said it, because according to Stern, if the company gives them a cash, they're gonna put it on the uniform. So get ready for your San Antonio Kotex Spurs!

Buying a player jersey with a Nike or Reebok logo is one thing, but how many people would buy Jersey's with the McDonald's symbol or Hershey's symbol, etc on it? Would you actually walk around wearing that?

It's got to happen eventually. It's called "maximizing your revenue streams." The big European soccer clubs already do it. I see nothing wrong with it.

as a long time soccer fan, i hate corporate sponsors advertising on jerseys. the best thing to do is either charge reebok more and allow them to put their logo on the jersey, or let nike, adidas, reebok, etc bid each other out for the right to put a discreet symbol, as in the barcelona jersey somebody posted, and even then it is clearly not a necessity

And Btw you cant compare soccer and NBA.
In NBA there is a salary cap.
In soccer, the more money you have the more good players you can hire.

TPark for you business > sport?
I mean I hate the idea of the sport just being a business sorry.
