    Couple of more updates...

*I agree with Whisky that it looks like Jerry Gray is staying. One thing for sure is he hasn't been to Nashville for an interview and that's extremely encouraging. Hopefully we'll continue to get more definitive updates on this situation.

*Brian Perroni of AggieYell.com reported earlier this afternoon that DT Alex Norman of Dallas Bishop Dunne plans on committing to Texas this weekend when/if he's offered. He stated that he's been a UT fan his whole life and his mother is a UT alum. He is the grandson of former Dallas Cowboys TE Pettis Norman for you older guys that might remember him.

*DeSoto HC Claude Mathis has stated that OG Curtis Riser has already been verbally offered by the UT staff and will be in Austin this weekend. Look for him to commit.

*I'm sorry the Junior Day list changes constantly, but it's the nature of the beast. I wrote this morning that DE Devonte Fields of Arlington Martin would be in town this weekend, but reports have come out saying that is not the case. He may be invited to the second Junior Day but there are no set plans for him and UT at this point. I made the change to the list above.

Here's another out-of-state prospect we need to keep an eye on. He's the cousin of current Mississippi State DC Chris Wilson and Manny Diaz is familiar with him. He's mentioned Texas would be at the top of his list when/if he's offered.

DE, Jeff Savage, Smackover (Smackover, AK) (6-3, 260)

Read a report tonight that Stacy Searels has verbally offered another out-of-state OT.

OT, Andrus Peat, Corona Del Sol (Tempe, AZ) (6-6, 270)
    http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/footbal...us-Peat-105073

I'm not sure if we're witnessing a change in philosophy when it comes to out-of-state recruiting, but I like what I'm seeing so far for this class. There's no reason a program like Texas shouldn't at least put out feelers to the nation's best. I say swing for the fences with 10 or so out-of-state studs every year and hope to land a couple of them. Peat's older brother, 2011 DT Todd Peat, Jr., signed his Letter of Intent with Nebraska earlier this month. I would assume the Huskers are a favorite in this one.

Big-time addition to the Junior Day list this morning. DT Javonte Magee of San Antonio Sam Houston has found transportation and will be in Austin this weekend.

Just read that LB Alex De La Torre of Denton Ryan will be arriving in Austin on Saturday (a day early) to meet with the UT staff. Every year certain prospects come in before the rest of the group for private meetings with the coaches. I assume a handful of other guys will do the same. Don't be surprised if we see a commitment or two as early as tonight.

According to the article below, Jerry Gray is interviewing with the Tennessee ans today. I haven't seen any denial of this report so far. Ugh!

Quick update on Jerry Gray...I just read that as of 3:00 p.m. he was on the UT campus. I think it's being assumed that any interview he does (or has done) will be over the phone and not in Nashville. Two questions I have:

a.) Why has there still been no definitive statement given to the media from UT and/or Mack Brown shooting this down?

b.) If Gray is leaving, why was he speaking to UT boosters at a Longhorn Foundation luncheon yesterday?

    Weird stuff.

This Jerry Gray stuff is just getting odd, by now if he had decided definitely to stay there would have been an announcement to squash any rumors of instability heading into junior day. I'm convinced he still doesn't know what he's going to do.

Good news on the junior day kids, although I'm not sure why they would be offering a borderline guy like De La Torre a day early. I wonder if these little early meetings and offers don't piss off some recruits who are coming on Sunday or on the 23rd a bit.

Yeah. I also just read that Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean is reporting that Jerry Gray was just picked up at the Nashville airport by a member of the ans' staff. It's clear someone, somewhere is fabricating stories. He obviously can't be in two places at once. I just hope it's over with by tonight and I'm done trying to follow the story.

I know LB Alex De La Torre is one of the members of the 2012 class that the staff has in been touch with the longest. They still feel strongly enough about him to make him a Junior Day offer. I'm a bit indifferent when it comes to him. I think there are at least three guys Texas should be looking at before him, but he's still a solid prospect.

Mack Brown may have had a hand in delaying Jerry Gray's interview process until he could line up a replacement for him. Looks like my prediction of Gray staying is sinking quickly.

*Looks like RB Johnathan Gray of Aledo will be another recruit that will get to Austin early on Saturday. He'll be coming to town with both his mother and father and they plan on making the UT/Baylor basketball game tomorrow. I'm sure he'll have private meetings with the staff. Some insiders believe there's a good chance he commits this weekend. Talk about starting off the 2012 class with crazy momentum if you get Brewer and Gray right off of the bat.

*The bad news from tonight (other than the Jerry Gray situation) is RB Trey Williams of Spring DeKaney most likely will not be in town this weekend. He came with the excuse of "I mixed up the dates of Junior Days" and now is not sure he'll be able to make it. He could be under the impression that Gray will commit this weekend, he won't receive an offer from UT or possibly both. It reminds me a lot of the situation with RB Herschel Sims of Abilene last year. He saw that Malcolm Brown and Aaron Green were UT's priorities for the 2011 class and he decided to pass on his Junior Day visit. That was pretty much the end of his relationship with UT. Hopefully this won't be Williams' path as well.

The lack of DB prospects at the first Junior Days makes you wonder if that's a reflection of the UT staff knowing for a while that Jerry Gray was leaving. Every position is accounted for except for this one. You obviously don't bring in prospects without them knowing who their position coach is going to be.

Although I have mixed feelings about him deciding to take a much better offer, he was one of the best DB to ever play at Texas, some think the best. Still got love for Jerry, wish no curse on him. Best case scenario he proves himself and gets another chance to come back and makes it right this time.

*RB Trey Williams of Spring DeKaney has re-scheduled for the second Junior Day on the 26th. No word as to why at the moment but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't attend that one either.

*DB Nick Coleman of San Antonio East Central was re-scheduled as of this morning to the second Junior Day on the 26th.

*S Will Hines of Waco High is basically coming along for the ride with OL Michael Starts of Waco La Vega. They've been best friends for many years. I would say OL Ralphael Green's appearance is a similar situation as he'll be coming along with DT Javonte Magee.

*Lots of crazy rumors going around that Texas could have gained two commitments with a possiblity of a third as of this afternoon. Those would be RB Johnathan Gray and LB Alex De La Torre. The third is either DT Alex Norman or WR Cayleb Jones. Nothing has been confirmed obviously, but maybe we'll hear something later tonight after the UT/Baylor basketball game.

I also wanted to say there's a rumor going around about a "suprise visitor" on campus. No word yet if he's a Texas boy or an out-of-state prospect. For those who haven't followed Junior Days before, there always seems to be a handful of guys show up on campus that were never "on the record" about attending. It's possible we'll see an unexpected commitment or two as well. Let's hope Texas ends this weekend with some crazy recruiting momentum.

Well, here's the updates I've heard:

First the Bad stuff out of the way - it's being reported by anInsider that Gray agreed to terms with the ans but no official word yet. No word on possible replacements.

The good stuff: Jonathan Gray and his dad were with Major at the basketball game today, where despite Lacedarius Dunn going nuts in the 2nd half UT won. Good sign that the good Grays were hanging with Major for the game.

The surprise visitor: Mario Edwards Jr. Reports are he made an unofficial today and met with Giles. Good sign that we still have a shot with him.

Trey Williams not coming to junior day, probably at all.

Yep, that's pretty encouraging news. Goes to show that you never know just who will show up. Not sure why DE Mario Edwards, Jr. and his father have become so secretive about his recruitment. He was definitely attempting to fly under the radar today.
