    Not sure if srs?

Statistically, Bonner is one of the most efficient players on the Spurs, trailing only the big 3. They score far more points when he's on the floor AND they give up slightly less. In terms of points on the scoreboard (and thus of course wins), Bonner is indispensable.

Ignoring that, his salary this year is ~$3.3M, and I believe he stays under $4M next year. So it is VERY far from an albatross contract. On the contrary, it's quite the bargain. You only get to use the amnesty once, so you'd want to save it for a time that would have a huge impact, such as if if we still had RJ's contract.

Your amenesty idea, to be quite frank, is an embarrassment to the Spurs community. If I were a fan of another team and read your post, I would think Spurs fans have some sort of mental re ation. It is mind-blowingly stupid, to the point that it is, no exaggeration, the single dumbest thing I have ever read on this forum.

Chazley - is that you? Come on fess up - it is you Chazley isn't it?

You never answered my question, but in case I wasn't clear I'll ask it again.

Would you approve of the Spurs using their amnesty on Bonner if necessary to retain Diaw?

Keep that F IN bum then and play him less during this part of the year like we did in 07 and now! The less he plays the more we seem to win if he plays his role correctly! I love the fact we have Diaw now though, so we don't have to overplay some bums anymore or rely on them as much, which is why we are winning TBO! BTW LOL Bonner one of the most efficient, he is not one of our top 5 players on this team nor near it, period end of cot damn story!

The fact he gets less MINS this year is KEY, like 07 less mins we win if he plays his little role. If the Spurs rely on him for BIG MINS they are in some shyt, period.

I debate with underdawg because I think he is a reasonable person and can understand things. You are clearly a lost cause and not worth my time.

Although I was amused at your acronym for To Be Honest. I guess you could be cute, in the dumb dog sort of way.

Durant shooting .340 from 3P this postseason. What a bum. Choker.

LeBron, .244. Awful. Hack hack choke. Worst postseason ever.

Kobe, .283. Guess he couldn't take the pressure.

When a person with rudimentary understanding of basketball and statistics tries to speak on a topic they are uninformed about, that's an issue to me.
In general, I agree with you about Bonner serving a purpose spreading the floor even when he doesn't shoot/misses. (Whether hes effective when he doesn't shoot/misses is another topic.)

But those examples are terrible. None of those guys are dedicated 3 point shooters and all of them have heavier roles on their respective teams.

I would amnesty Bonner just so he isn't an option for Pop and also to regain some of my hair. But yeah, his contract isn't worth the amnesty and he's still an useful regular season player. I'm glad Pop finally figured out the playoffs are out of Matty's league.

Sometimes players are part of a team not just to be role players but also for chemistry. It is a well known fact that Bonner is well liked by the team and the coaching staff, that accounts for a lot, after all it is team chemistry that has differentiated the Spurs from other NBA teams. I honestly don't think you can count on one hand other teams that are as close or closer that the Spurs when it comes to this department. They go to movies together for god sake!

Stop being a back seat quarter back and just appreciate the fact that pop and R.C. know what they're doing.

He also fouled Harden on a drive to the basket for an and1 that cut the lead to under 10... it just feels like every time he fouls a driver is an automatic and1...

^ tbh, to elaborate on that, I think not only he instills no fear on the attacking player, but also doesn't get any respect from the refs. He's like the fall guy or the designated driver. We gotta screw a guy, let's stick it to the white unathletic guy with a kid face who probably won't complain.

    Just my opinion.

i remember nick kareem olajuwon collison grabbing every offensive rebound available when bon bon was in the game

i also remember him getting a pass near the end of the quarter and immediately shoving it off to gary neal without any thought
its a smart play since hes matt bonner but you could just tell the ball is his kyrptonite
im disgusted watching him get an open 3 only to put it on the floor then pick up his dribble and stand around waiting for tony/manu to come get it back

They were basically 50/50 balls. Bonner's got to do a better job of boxing out.

You gotta love sports fans, they are funny specimens of the human species.

At the beginning of the season, here is a realistic outlook of the San Antonio Spurs.

Duncan: 36 years old HOF that looked done in the Dallas series three years ago. Overdone in the Phoenix sweep in 2010. Completely digested in the Memphis sweep last year.
Parker: 30 years old speedster that lost some of his speed over some 10 ankle injuries, and who had stubbornly refused to play any defense for 2 years. Played all summer with France.
Ginobili: one of the greatest ever to play the game, 34, and having broken bones in just about every part of his body. For good measure, the future HOF breaks his hand 5 games into the season, requiring surgery.
    Jefferson: enough said.
Blair: 6 5 "center" with no ACLs, overweight, no jump shot beyond 9 feet. Bad defense.
Neal: cheap jump shooter, short for a 2 guard, can't guard any decent 2 guard. Limited ballhandlings.
Leonard: 20 years old rookie. Not explosively athletic, suspect jump shot, no experience whatsoever of tough games.
Green: cut by Cleveland. Cut by Spurs. Looked mediocre on a bad Euroleague team in the fall.
Splitter: China doll from Brazil, rode the pine for most of the previous season, including the playoffs, due -in part- to jujuries.
TJ Ford: another China doll. In fact, after an harmstring injury, he gets a hard hit and decides to quit on basketball.
J Anderson: third China doll, 6 months to recover from harmstring injury, immediately broke a foot, ending previous season.

    Bonner.

Somehow, they manage to get rid of Jefferson and get
Jackson: 34, bounced around by n teams around the NBA in the previous seasons.
Diaw: overweight and generally looking bad, on one of the worst teams in 60 years of NBA history (and probably in the history of the sport, cost-wise).
Mills: 6 1 shooting guard, cut by Portland.

Now, somehow these guys form one of the most cohesive squads to ever play the game. They also look outright unstoppable, sweeping the Jazz and Clippers. Currently they are up 2-0 in WCF, and quite sijmply, they play basketball EXACTLY the way basketball is supposed to be played.

And what some of the fans do?

    about Matt frigging Bonner!

Forgot Pop - apparently senile, lost it around 2007, would have been sacked if he wasn't also the GM, chief scout and president of basketball operations or whatever.

The first time the Thunder ate into the Spurs' lead was immdediately after Bonner entered the game. The second time the Thunder started devouring the Spurs' lead was right after Bonner entered the game. Okay, so it's not all his fault. But he's not spreading the floor on the offensive end. Mostly he doesn't want to take a shot, so he takes two dribbles and dumps it off to someone. It's bad enough when a guy is missing 3's - but when he won't take them? The Thunder are just about playing 5-on-4 when he's out there.
This. I'm tired of watching the leads disappear when he enters the games.

Honestly I think Pop will only go to Blair if he's so pissed off and disgusted by the play of our other bigs and Spurs are down 20....then again that very well may happen in game 3.

    My bad.

Popovic: 66, future HOF, lost interest. "If I don't win with this team I should be fired!" (fall 2009). Get swept, keep his job.

Things must be good for the Spurs right now if the only thing people have to about is a reserve big man who's only playing 14mpg in the playoffs and shooting 40% on his 3's.

People forgot about that. It wasn't one of his best years. Couldn't figure out a rotation all season.
