can you pove this rule was created simply because of political correctness? whatever that is.. the entire thread is based on your premise that it was.. prove it
Essentially, they eliminate a dominate team's chances to sweep the medals and, in the case of Miss Wieber, arguably the best gymnast in the world right now, who place 4th on a bad day and eliminated her from the compe ion so a worse gymnast -- 21 of them to be exact -- could have a chance to compete for a medal some of them do not deserve.
I didn't call it a scandal. I simply pointed out -- after seeing the Karoyli interview -- something stupid of which I wasn't aware.

Prove it wasn't. Prove it!
You ing crack me up.
You tell me, what would be a plausible explanation for the rule? Besides, the guy quoted in the article I posted, aways back, has probably researched the issue more than I am willing to bother with so, I stand by what he said.
Prove it. You said it with such authority, too. My goodness how you must feel so authoritarian.
I'm sorry but, you forum police/trolls just crack me up sometimes. Hey! Here's a suggestion, ignore me. ;o)
It's kind of hard to ignore your crap when you start 300 poorly-thought-out "lib'rul conspiracy" threads per day, B.....
Really? Just don't click the link. It's easy. I do it every day. Just say no, Clipper Nation, your input won't be missed a bit.
How could you do that if nobody else is starting 6+ turd threads every day?
How about being a good user and keeping your junk tidy? Even boutons figured that one out a while ago...
If no one responded they'd roll off the first page in a day.
Go ahead, start a campaign. Perhaps it'll bear fruit.
Here, I'll provide a clear message for you to share:
"LET YONI ROLL, JUST DON'T CLICK!"
"LET YONI ROLL, JUST DON'T CLICK!"
"LET YONI ROLL, JUST DON'T CLICK!"
Truth be told, you and about a 8 or 9 other posters waste more bandwidth with your personal sniping and trolling that do my thread starts.
And, when I look back at my thread starts, many of them are multi-page conversations about the topic...mixed with stuff like what you just posted and the incessant trolling of the likes of ChumpDumper and boutons, et. al.
Why do you care? Are you paying for bandwidth? As far as I know, Kori still owns this board. If she want's to limit thread starts, she can let me know.
Certainly there exist NO OTHER examples in the entire world of sports of this exact situation happening (a player/team failing to qualify who is arguably better than someone that did qualify).
Well, except for almost every other sport.
I mean, just think of how many Americans AREN'T in the Olympics because the stupid IOC insists we give spots to other countries.
Just imagine how much more interesting the 100m dash would be if it were NOTHING BUT JAMAICANS!
By design?
Actually, almost no other sport -- with the notable exception of College Football and it's stupid CBS (which, it appears, they're trying to rectify) -- has a system where contestants are unfairly eliminated.
Almost no other sport?
How about instances in which an NBA team from the Western Conference doesn't get in because the evil NBA has DICTATED that each conference has an equal number of participants?
Or those times when an NFL/MLB Division Winner has a worse record than teams who miss the playoffs?
Or any sport that involves qualifying heats where the top of the heats qualify and someone who had a better time in a different heat doesn't?
ALMOST NO OTHER SPORT?!?!
What was unfair about the way she was eliminated? Did they implement the rule midway her routine?
What are there 8 lanes? Well, if the 8 fastest sprinters are Jamaicans, so be it.
Would the Jamaicans also dominate every other sport?
I mean, c'mon. Isn't it Tony Parker that's playing Basketball for the French? The Olympics are becoming a joke.
If they don't want it to be a showcase for the amateur athlete, from whatever nation, to demonstrate they're the best in the world, what's the point?
Read up, we've already had that argument.
I've already conceded it's the rule, I think it's an unfair rule that punishes merit and rewards failure -- the Olympics should just admit they're more interested in diversity than placing the most qualified athletes in compe ion for the three medals.
The Olympics is most interested in entertainment value to beget ratings and thus to beget the inflow of dollars. Remember that American free-market system you brought up earlier?
Was she not in the compe ion for a medal? This is the way qualifiers work. Or maybe you should be complaining about all the American Gymnasts who didn't even make the US Squad. Surely they could have posted better scores than some of these other participants too.the Olympics should just admit they're more interested in diversity than placing the most qualified athletes in compe ion for the three medals.
I'm not familiar with Basketball. Do they have Conference Championships that determines who moves to the finals? Is each team given the opportunity to win their way out of their division and into the finals?
I am more familiar with the NFL/MLB playoff (more with the MLB) and they do advance based on how they perform in their individual leagues, divisions, etc...
Wouldn't it take a season longer than 12 months for any of the professional leagues to play each other enough times to arrive at a champion by win/loss elimination?
Yeah. Well, in the women's gymnastics, they do that anyway, everybody competes for a score that matters less than what country you happen to be from, limiting countries from advancing gymnasts who may have scored better than others.
And, if you up in the qualifying heats, you don't deserve to advance. Wieber placed fourth in that, "qualifying heat," out of how ever many gymnasts were competing.
Besides, these gymnasts have been through a series of gymnastics meets that qualified them to even be in London this year.
Almost no other sport.
Imagine an NCAA bracket that starts with, what is it, 64 team? Imagine after two rounds of the playoffs, the rules state you must drop the 4th seed team and replace it with the 17th seed team.
Why bother with the charade of all these international events leading up to the finals? Why not just tell everyone to bring their two best gymnasts and we'll award medals.
Never mind. I'm persuaded.
So basically, yoni wants an Olympic games to determine who will compete in the Olympic games.
3/4 of them do find that fate... then another 5+ turd ones come to replace them... I'm hoping it will all go away after the election, once you're done with your political menstruation period.
When you post , you should expect to get called out for it. Happens to boutons, NBADan, etc... that's where your posting level is at these days. Sad really.
Because it's spam, and makes this place suck. If we wanted to receive the mailing list you get 90% of your from, we'll just ask to be added to it.
Mailing list? More like Yoni just watches O'Reilly and Hannity every night tbh....
Yes, the same way that each Gymnast is given the change to win their way out of their team and into the finals.
Baseball is 162 games. I doubt it would be any longer.I am more familiar with the NFL/MLB playoff (more with the MLB) and they do advance based on how they perform in their individual leagues, divisions, etc...

Wieber didn't place fourth in that heat. Her heat was her team's run trough each apparatus, and she place 3rd in a heat where the top 2 advance.Yeah. Well, in the women's gymnastics, they do that anyway, everybody competes for a score that matters less than what country you happen to be from, limiting countries from advancing gymnasts who may have scored better than others.

Or imagine that of those 64 teams to start, some of them don't have as good a record as some of the teams who didn't make the tournament (which happens every year).
Besides, these gymnasts have been through a series of gymnastics meets that qualified them to even be in London this year.
Almost no other sport.

Well I flipped through WOAI on the way home and they were complaining about this very topic and the socialism it represents. Apparently there just needs to be a Conservative Games with rules they like. If your team starts one, I'd watch.
Or imagine a Bracket where the brackets are unevenly weighted based on strength of the teams, and in the Final one of the teams isn't as good as a team that lost in the earlier rounds on the other side of the bracket.
That happens in ALMOST NO OTHER SPORT I'm sure.
