Play Baynes against big half court teams and Penergraph against small fast break teams.

Why? Who is gonna be his mentor to develop him as a big on the team? Birdman? Bosh? It he wants to improve he won't go to Miami. If he wants to get paid as much as possible assuming they give him a large offer, or wants a good party city then he will chose Miami.
Only a small hand full of players have the mindset about improving and being a better fundamentally sound player. Most just want to play ball, get laid, and be famous. They can give a about looking for mentors. Some will just hire hakeem during the offseason. Oden just wants to be relevant again. He wants his name out there and getting to play on the Miami super team will give him that.

What I don't understand is how Miami can give him more money than the Spurs can especially considering there is no state income tax in Texas.

There's no individual income tax in Florida either, is there?

SA has the minimum to offer but I believe Miami has the taxpayer exception they can throw at him.

Duncan, Splitter, Diaw, Bonner, Baynes, Blair, and Pendergraph....why add an eighth big?
Because Bonner, Baynes, Blair and Pendegraph suck until proven otherwise.

Actually, TD could use Oden's handicap placard so he won't have to worry about being too late to arrive for warmups, tbh.

I really haven't seen enough of Pendergraph to make an assessment, but he seems to have a different skill set than Baynes. It will depend on which one makes the most of their minutes and fits the system better.
I think Pendergraph was brought on the advice of Jim Boylen. You'd think there is a plan in place for Blair and Baynes, at least. It's obviously a bit confusing with all the rumors being about anything but a backup pg or a 3. I'm sure Oden is more for the future when no one, other than Tiago, is around.

If Oden is healthy and if he signs with Spurs, which make two huge "if", he would be at his best paired with Diaw as backup frontcourt duo.

Does this mean he's not playing in the NBA this season - considering that NO team has "heard something by now"?

Florida, like Texas, has no state income tax.

I read that Miami is reluctant to give Oden more than the minimum due to the fact that while the mini MLE is ~$3.2M, it would actually cost the Heat over $10M to sign him considering their luxury tax situation.

Warmups? How about being late to Game 3? How miserable that traffic was until I managed to maneuver onto a back road parallel to Houston Street...

I would say Pendergraph and Baynes are all about on the same level with each other, but ya they suck NBA stander wise. I hope im wrong though.
I dunno. Considering the money the Spurs invested in the two it looks to me like the Spurs think more of Pendergraph.

Given the Pendergraph signing and the interest in Oden and maybe even Mozgov, it looks to me like the Spurs don't see Baynes as much more than league minimum roster fodder.

That's not a good picture at all. WTF is Oden doing? Spurs, Greg, there is no other choice.

If he makes a successful comeback, how much money does he want to play for? Is he going to keep playing for peanuts in Miami? They're not really going to be able to offer him a decent contract with the players they currently have signed up. Spurs are going to have the flexibility, sooner, to offer more money if he proves he can make a big comeback.

So can the Spurs, and he can be a big part of it if he can make a successful comeback.

You really think a guy who's played 82 games since 2009 can make a successful comeback?

Spurs need to try and get him to sign with San Antonio or I hope he signs elsewhere. The Heat need a center but Oden is a nice 3peat insurance policy for them or whatever if he stays healthy the whole season, that's how I see it why they want him so bad. It's going to be tough for Miami to get out of the East this upcoming season, but we'll see they always seem to rise up like roaches.

If the Spurs only get him to give us 15-20 good consistent minutes We'll win the chip. The important thing to remember is that we dont need Oden to start or be a superstar. If he can just be a great backup center in limited minutes with TD on the bench resting, providing shotblocking and some post game. We'll dominate opponent down low all game long. The ability to go big and STAY big with guys like Diaw at the 3 would be a huge asset.

Dude, he's met twice with the Spurs already? Are you saying just because he had dinner with Coach Spo...that the Spurs don't have a chance? I'm positive The Spurs have had dinner with him and treated him with first class.....That is their way!
