Good move for Thomas and still wondering who will get the minutes behind Kawhii.

Good move for Thomas and still wondering who will get the minutes behind Kawhii.
Dumb post, see Blair, Neal and so on.
Both of them could at least stay in front of their man, and as you know, both of them are now GONE.
Deshaun Thomas has decided to play in France and not Spain.
"In this business, you have to think about family (Thomas has a 17-month-old son). I still could have gone to (training camp) and tried to make the (Spurs’) roster, but with my son and a family to provide for, I had to look at that. And developing a year ain't going to hurt.
It was kind of tough, because I wanted to make the roster. But if training camp didn't go well, I’d be in the (NBA Development) League, and that (pays) like a part-time job." -Deshaun Thomas
Deshaun Thomas is a smart guy, because had he decided to play for the Austin Toros in the D-League Spurs' would have lost his rights to the team. Not only has Thomas' made a great financial decision on his part in playing in France, he's also protected himself from getting signed by another NBA team. It's also worth mentioning that he didn't have to do that, but that just shows that he wants to be a Spur. -TTSD

Looking forward to a great opportunity to play in France with Nanterre this year. Appreciate all the good work with San Antonio looking forward with playing with them next year but couldn't pass it up!
DeShaun Thomas @DT1UpNComin
Thanks for all the support from all my fans.
Nanterre is a nice place for Thomas to start his professional career. It's a small team based on good human values. They have the same same coach for over 25 years that is known to be a good teacher for young players. They also plays a quality offensive basketball.
Nanterre Euroleague season will be almost for sure be finished in December so there will have the possibility for Spurs to do like with Baynes and sign Thomas after that if he has been good in that first half of the season. Thomas will also be seen by a lot of NBA scouts with one of his teammate being the draft prospect Mam Jaiteh.
Emiliano Carchia @SportandoBasketJust some more roster news for that team as well
DeShaun Thomas will play with JSF Nanterre next season as confirmed to @GabrielPJ_CandS by the coach of the team. Next target: Travis Leslie

So who will play backup SF minutes? Ginobili and Belinelli? Will they bring in a free agent?
At this point, have to wait and see if any interesting names show up on the Spurs training camp roster.
Good point, could really help him if he doesn't get on the Spurs roster next year (and they have 2 other SFs stashed in Europe so who knows).
I thought they should have given him the 15th spot but then again I feel like the way it turned out is good for his career.
imho ginobili at the 2 handling the ball with green at the 3 waiting in the corner.
The same two who were always going to play them: Ginobili and Green.
Thomas was never going to play ahead of Belinelli, nor is whatever scrub they bring in to provide depth at SF.
From Nanterre's official website:
http://www.jsfnanterre.com/actualite...a-jsf-nanterre
They gave some interesting details about Thomas:
- 2 Spanish, 1 Italian and 1 Russian teams were also after him but he picked Nanterre to play the Euroleague.
- After his first great SL games, Nanterre's coach tried to get him but he was out of reach because Spurs let him know that he could get their last roster spot.
- In mid August and with Spurs not offering Thomas enough guarantees that he would get the 15th roster spot, he decided to look at the overseas market.
- They said he will be there to work on some aspects of his game like his explosiveness, his speed and his versatility before trying again his chance in NBA.
- He will arrive in France in a week with his wife and his baby.
When you look back at his SL, Thomas had 3 very good games followed by 2 bad ones. These 2 bad games could have cost him a contract with some guaranteed money. This article also confirms what Thomas said to the Ohio medias that Spurs don't know what to do with their 15th roster spot for the moment.
Mickeal Pietrus has allegedly worked out for one team. The team is unnamed (secretive?) , and obviously doesn't mind a French player.

Thomas says he’ll play in France
Deshaun Thomas, who left Ohio State with a year of eligibility remaining and was the 58th pick in the NBA draft, by the San Antonio Spurs, will play in France this season, he said today.
Earlier, Spanish and European basketball websites reported Thomas was close to signing with Estudiantes Madrid, which plays in Spain’s top league, the Liga Endesa.
But when first contacted this afternoon, Thomas said another opportunity had come up and he was considering it. While we were talking, Thomas took a call from his agent, J.R. Hensley, and said he had agreed to a contract to play for a team in Paris.
Thomas was not sure of the name of the team, and Hensley said last night that no agreement had been reached with anyone. “We are still evaluating all options,” Hensley said in a text message.
Thomas, the Big Ten scoring leader last season, played for the Spurs’ entry in the Las Vegas Summer League in July and averaged a team-high 12.4 points and 5 rebounds in 28.6 minutes per game. He made 41.4 percent of his field goal attempts, including 37.5 percent of his threes, in five games.
But the Spurs have a history of letting their draft picks, even first-rounders, gain more seasoning overseas before signing them or trading their negotiating rights. Barring a trade, they will retain exclusive rights to Thomas through at least the 2014 draft.
Thomas said he and Hensley spoke with the Spurs last week about offers Thomas had received from European teams.
“They didn’t know what they want to do with their 15 (roster) spots . . . and I needed to make a decision,” Thomas said.
“In this business, you have to think about family (Thomas has a 17-month-old son). I still could have gone to (training camp) and tried to make the (Spurs’) roster, but with my son and a family to provide for, I had to look at that. And developing a year ain’t going to hurt.
“It was kind of tough, because I wanted to make the roster. But if training camp didn’t go well, I’d probably be in the (NBA Development) League, and when you go in the D League, you need another part-time job.”
Despite the fact he will play overseas and not in the NBA next season, Thomas said he does not regret giving up his final season at Ohio State. He was philosophical, saying he puts his fate in God’s hands.
“God makes people who are very talented in this world not have things easy in life . . . to see how tough you are. Are you willing to keep fighting and doing what you’ve got to do?” Thomas said.
“If it takes a year to develop and get better, that’s what it takes. Some guys hang their head down and think it’s over, but it’s not. God put me in a great position to play overseas and develop another year and keep following my dreams.”
Thanks Dex. I love Thomas' at ude and logic.

He also played a game yesterday.
Stats: http://www.jump-shot.net/events/MATCH2D.pdf
He scored 11 points in both games. By reading what people, that were at the game, wrote on message boards, he looked promising.
