If it is that important to him that he play, then the Spurs should let him. Manu plays on emotion and if the Spurs don't let him go it could lead to a less enthusiastic Manu next year. If I were the Spurs Id just go over the med records with him and let him decide for himself.
Never seen the "less enthusiastic Manu" before. He seems to have one gear, the all you got gear. Sometimes it's not enough, but it's never for lack of enthusiasm. Now I know exactly what you mean and wonder if it would hurt team chemistry if he is denied approval to play. I don't think so because they are not going shut him out of the discussion. If he isn't healed properly can he even get insured to play? I think he needs a clean bill of health before he will be able to play.

Sounds like the tests are inconclusive. It is probably healing but not fully healed. Manu is putting the Spurs in a difficult spot. They can say no and piss off Manu or say yes and risk his injury worsening. I would surmise that if this was the regular season, Manu would not be cleared by the team doctors to play. But the WC is for a limited time, making the decision much harder.

We should just expect Manu to not play until well after the All-Star break...

Meh, Manu has been part of the Spurs family for 12 years... If the team says no, he won't be pissed at them. I also expect him and Pop to have a conversation on the subject and come to an agreement, whatever that might be.

Manu can't make a decision on this because FIBA prohibits NBA players from playing if their teams deem the player is injured (or uninsured). It's part of the FIBA-NBA agreement.

I do hope the Spurs just say no if he's not fully healed by now.

So Manu calls out the Spurs doctors for only having the Spurs interest in mind but doesn't call out the doctor performing the check up for the national team? What gives? lmao

Acting like the Spurs have some sort of hidden agenda but ignoring the fact that the national team has just as much of one is re ed.

Of course the National Team thinks he's alright. Is Manu too stupid to realize this? Or does he think the Spurs are the only ones who are dishonest with him?

We are running with CoJo at the point for 25-40 minutes a game for 50-75% of the season. Parker needs rest, too. We and he wore his ass out the last two years. He played in the summer, and we didn't rest him enough based upon that. Then when he did come back from rest we did give him rest that was too short, we played him heavy minutes coming off of that rest. Luckily Patty was able to pick up his slack, but we won't have Patty to do that, and it wasn't even enough, even then to keep him from being hobbled the rest of the season. Now Parker is a year older, not playing this summer, but still coming off two injury-riddled years, I would like to see him get Duncan and Ginobili treatment. He's younger, but he takes a lot of punishment. I fully expect to be without Patty, Manu, and Parker at some point before the half-way mark. CoJo is going to HAVE to play HEAVY minutes, and I think Marco and Kyle may be seen running point in the first 50-75% of the season a la Gary Neal. It may get ugly at the 1. But, Parker needs rest. I don't know that Bryce impressed enough that they are going to cut anyone to give him a spot for 1/2 a season.

Parker not playing this Summer mixed with it being a contract year should result in a great Tony season next year. Joseph will do a solid job filling in for Patty.

He saw a THIRD doctor (not the NT doctor or the Spurs doctor) before traveling to Buenos Aires, who is the guy that indicated to wait 30 or so days and do this study.

He obviously did that because he knows one guy is gonna pull one way and the other guy is gonna pull the other way.

Now it's up to the Spurs to determine what's going to be.

Also, AFAIK, the relationship between the Arg NT doctor and the Spurs doctors is pretty cordial, despite any disagreements. Grippo has been with the NT team for many years, including the last time Gino was hurt with the NT, and the whole Fabricio and his heart condition saga. That's why I don't expect any sour grapes if the Spurs decide to shut Manu down.

Look, everyone overreacting, calm down. He cannot tell his country he doesnt want to play for them. It is a big deal if he flat out refuses, therefore, he is saying he wants to play and wants the Spurs to be the bad guys that say no so that he doesnt get any blood on his hands... Either that or Manu is a re and will break his leg and screw us over

Tony's ankles, vertebrae, hamstrings, etc. don't own calendars and can't be sated with material things paychecks can purchase. They care not that it is a contract year, actually, they are inanimate objects incapable of care. Even without playing this summer, if we run him into the ground due to Patty (and probably Manu) being unable to absorb point minutes, we are very likely to get what we've gotten the last two years come playoff time: worn ass out Tony Parker. He is too good when he's healthy not to try to get him that way for the playoffs.

I was disappointed how early he came back from rest, last year, and when he did come back, he played far too many minutes with predictable results.

And, of course, there's always random injury not fatigue, age, and use related. Collisions, etc. One of those happen early in the season and it's quite a pickle.

My question is, will he be able to get insured if his tests are inconclusive? The Spurs are going to need him insured for millions. Who would insure someone that might be injured for that kind of money. For the record, I think if he is not injured he should go ahead and play. It's two weeks, not all summer long.

As nono explained he hired a 3rd doctor. Id just like to add that the 3rd doctor is a specialist superior to the team docs, evident one by pay and two by the fact that the spurs docs failed to catch this injury for over 2 months. I understand fans siding with the team staff but they are neither the white knight nor the victim of this story, not when manu was playing through pain and they were unable to diagnose this injury.

I think an old guy is better off playing the two weeks to stay in shape then sitting on his booty for another couple months. If healthy of course.
