I think the playoffs will be an indicator for both, assuming they're both on the fence.

It was just last playoffs that Tim was blocking Blake's shot. Leads me to think he's embracing the twilight Admiral-role.

They both leave, the team loses it's two smartest players.
IDK. If they win a ring, it seems like an obvious spot for them to retire.
If they don't, I think it would be pretty daunting for them to gear up for another long season and put in the work again to try to get back.

Timmy can be Playing Coach, and play say, around 30 games in next year's regular season

so that the leadership will be there....why not???

Manu can retire and be something like Chief International Scout, sort of the informal Ambassador of the Spurs to Earth

    wow!

Tim will gain #2 all time wins stat if he comes back next season. Hits #1 if he comes back for 2. Yeah his career averages will fall but it doesn't matter. Most wins ever is a fly ass ing stat tbh.

Heard some stat on ESPN this morning: Duncan has more Wins than Michael Jordan has games played as a Bull.
What's even more amazing is despite that stat, Jordan still leads 6 rings to 5.

Always hated Jordan, but gotta respect his accomplishments.

    about leadership

can diaw and dwest hold the fort? what do you think guys?

    and mills the cheerleader, integrator??

    just thinking
that's a tough one. I would think that it starts to fall on Kawhi. Duncan evolved from a somewhat quiet player to becoming the team leader. Have to hope that Kawhi has that in him.

    Conversations with ElNono:

Javier: Hey El, check out my new car!
ElNono: You know it lost half its value once you drove it off the lot?

Hector: Hey nono man, I just got a job offer from Google.
ElNono: Nice, but you'll be training an Indian to take it over in a couple of years.

Guadalupe: Nono, I just got back from the hospital with my new baby boy Fernando.
ElNono: You know he'll die one day right?

Jose Luis: Nono man, I just proposed to my woman and she said yes!
ElNono: But you don't have a green card either.

Miguel: Hey Nono, my daughter Carmen just got into Yale.
ElNono: Have fun with that student loan.

Luz Elena: Nono, you wanna come in for coffee?
ElNono: What the ? This ain't even shaved.

I think Kyle. TbH he's a natural. Seems like a coach on the floor. Getting guys in their spots, getting shots for guys. It comes very natural for him and he's done it for every team in his young career. We have seen it in the garbage time lineups and those lineups with him did very well with him as a point forward. He was just too young and learning himself + we have the veterans in the team to not need that, but the Spurs have been developing not just his playmaking ability but his leadership too, for when it's time.

They'll both be back next year. I'm just not ready for them to retire. I even just get a kick out of watching them goofing off on the bench together during blowouts.

    2015 TD: 29MPG, 13.9PPG, 9.1RPG, 2BPG, 51%FG
    2016 TD: 25MPG, 8.4PPG, 7.4RPG, 1.3BPG, 49%FG

    2015 MANU: 22MPG, 10.5PPG, 3 RPG, 4.2APG, 1.0SPG, 42%FG & 34%3PTFG
    2016 MANU: 19MPG, 9.7PPG, 2.6RPG, 3.1APG, 1.1SPG, 45%FG & 39%3PTFG

Manu's shooting is still pretty good, better than last year and his nearly 10ppg and 3apg in just 19mpg ranks quite nicely = 20ppg and 6ppg in a usual shooting guards 38 minutes, Manu shows good production still in limited minutes. Not bad for a 38 year old whose been playing pro basketball since he started walking. I can't be bothered checking but how many strictly backup SGs are averaging 10ppg, 3apg, 1.1spg, 45%FG and 39%3PTFG? Not bad production from your backup SG no matter his age. Shooting wise he has improved, his numbers minute wise are steady.

Tim's story tells a bit of a different tale, last year I thought he was clearly still one of the best bigs in the NBA and played a pretty healthy 77 games. It was just unfortunate he was the only good big man on a team who went up against huge athletic freaks of nature in Black Griffin and DeAndre Jordan in the first bloody round. If it wasn't for Tim, that series woulda been lost in 4 games as he battled those guys admirably, instead of being taken to the last possession of game 7. This year Tim has played just 58 games and nothing has seemed all that smooth or comfortable out there. This year you can tell he's the oldest guy on the court, last year you couldn't.

Tim averaged 17.9ppg, 11.1rpg, 3.3apg, 1.4bpg, 1.3spg and shot 59% in the playoffs against the Clippers! That was a nasty stat line by the old man considering his opponents. So, has he been coasting this year waiting for the playoffs or has his age and body betrayed him and he's finally fallen off the cliff? We landed the prize free agent LMA in free agency who has been sensational and watched as Kawhi morphed into one of the very best players in the game. Therefore Tim just has to play D, grab some boards and be there on offense to clean up the mess in a season where hardly any plays have been called for him. 8.4ppg, 7.4rpg, 1.3bpg, 59%FG is pretty bloody good for your spare big man who doesn't give a about numbers. His stats this year are hard to look at by his standards yet his team has their best record in history and in a game full of young athletic marvels those stats combined with a PER OF 17.22 aint bad.

Say Tim does retire, whose gonna fill his giant shoes? Which big out there (available and on a budget) can line up alongside LMA and Kawhi, not get in their way, help the team play league leading defence and be the best leader in the game?

I really want them both around for another year. If we can get a legit centre this offseason, not an all star, just someone of Tiago's calibre maybe, Tim could play all season off the bench. Instead of playing the likes of Jordan, Bosh, Griffin, Howard, Porzingis, Davis, Cousins, Drummond and all those big freaks he can play against other teams reserve bigs? I think he is too smart and still good enough to play another year. As long as he becomes the teams 3rd best big and comes off the bench with Manu. Who is available this offseason to take Tim's spot in the starting lineup if he retires? Tim can play solid minutes off the bench and hopefully show the other teams bench bigs that he is still a boss. I'm just not ready to see him go. If we can get someone to take his starting spot and have him come of the bench and be a boss against other bench bigs that'd be awesome. Please stick around Manu and TD! You are both too important, too smart and to loved to leave just yet. The car on 3 wheels driven by 2 old men is headed toward the cliff, but it's still another 14 months away, I hope Still a little gas left in the tank and some tread on the wheels.

These could easily be the last regular season games for Timmy D and Manu... and the end of the good ole big 3.

I thought they both generally did very well considering the age and the role they play now.

They obviously show their age here or there, that's expected, tbh, but I'm not sure the Spurs would be a near 70-win team without them.

    so,
    - Do you think they have enough in the tank to come back for another season, if they so choose? I think they do.

    - If they do come back, do you see that as a hindrance to develop younger players, robbing minutes from them? I think their roles and mins are limited already, so no.

    - If they don't come back, how many wins do you think the team would be able to pull off next season? (if we pretend the roster basically stays the same, and compe ion too). I'm going with 50 wins, mid-high tier in the West.
i think we can be a 54-56 win team (with no TD/Manu) given the conference can get weakened even more..Other than the Warriors, some serious question marks over the rest..

    * Clippers/Thunder could conceivably lose both Durant/Griffin in free agency/trade..LAC are going to give that core a hard look after (likely) another 2nd round exit..

    * Dallas/Memphis have no future and are comprised of old farts and damaged goods (Dirk, Zbo, Gasol,Wes, Parsons..etc....) with little to no chance at major upgrade in FA

    * Utah/Portland: gimmicky teams with 2nd round ceiling..

    * Houston..Dwight likely out and they have no game-changing talent outside Harden..the latter cancerous play won't help their summer recruiting.

    * Wolves/Pelicans: they will improve and but are nowhere near contention.

    * Lakers/Nuggets/Sacramento/Suns: lottery fodder..that's basically at least 12 guaranteed wins ..

Maybe they can be player/coaches next year? Play when they can and want to? Coach the rest of the time. They'd both make kickass assistant coaches, 2 of the smartest basketball minds in the world and know the Spurs system better than anyone.

I think Manu is playing grest for a 38- year-old player. His legs are good, his knees are good, he still has quick hands, he's still an excellent passer, he still has his shooting touch. There is nothing stopping him from playing another year except his will to play. I think he"ll be back.
Oh, and with that nose he smells another le.

duncan has to have another season in him.

really don't wanna see manu retire yet. would much rather him play for us after next year's all star break than retire. manu will play next season imo.

Tim and Manu are better than anybody the Spurs can get in the offseason. It's in the team's best interest that they return.

It would hurt us if they retire (especially at their price ranges), but I see Manu going no matter what and Tim retiring if we win it all or go out early. He'll come back if we lose in the Finals or a close WCF series.
