They are offering themselves up as floating hospitals.

This should scare the crap out of people.
All the college kids playing together on the beaches then nightclubbing in condos, this is were they go when they get sick.
Take the trip to the Liberia home base and dump 'em.

Sure he would, but he'd be bending himself over too.
But, it's killing him to watch us bend over, bum.

what hedge? this virus will be with us 2–3 years. 1 year for cruise industry to regroup/redesign their ships (smaller/cleaner)

    4 years
2-3 years? This virus is probably with us for good.

Yeah but it’ll just be another annual vaccine we have to take at some point.

Ha the petri dish thing is the dumbest thing I hear related to cruise ships I’m a critical care/trauma nurse. I’ve worked my entire career in hospitals. I challenge you to find a place in your favorite hospital, say the icu waiting room or the dining room. Sit there for a couple of hours and count the number of cleaning staff that come by cleaning up. Then book yourself a cruise and find a place (anywhere) to sit for a couple of hours and count the number of staff you see coming by mopping and wiping down all surfaces. The disparity will shock you. I’ve done it and never gone more than 3 minutes without seeing someone. Heck in my last ICU our housekeeper also took care of the waiting room. I guarantee some days she never entered it!
and why do you think they have to constantly clean? because they are petri dishes

you are really comparing an ICU to a cruise ship?

Yeah but it’ll just be another annual vaccine we have to take at some point.
We'll also develop a herd immunity in addition. Quote from the doctor who eradicated smallpox:

Since it's novel, we’re still learning about it. Do you believe that if someone gets it and recovers, that person thereafter has immunity?

So I don't see anything in this virus, even though it's novel, [that contradicts that]. There are cases where people think that they've gotten it again, [but] that's more likely to be a test failure than it is an actual reinfection. But there's going to be tens of millions of us or hundreds of millions of us or more who will get this virus before it's all over, and with large numbers like that, almost anything where you ask “Does this happen?”

Eventually, we will get to the epidemiologist gold ring.

    What’s that?

That means, A, a large enough quan y of us have caught the disease and become immune. And B, we have a vaccine. The combination of A plus B is enough to create herd immunity, which is around 70 or 80 percent.

    https://www.wired.com/story/coronavi...pidemiologist/

I also think this virus was circulating around the US way before the first reported case. Probably in December. I don't see how such a globally connected country, and to China in particular, got it that late. I tend to believe that there were tens of thousands carriers out there who were asymptomatic to mild that have already recovered, well before we labeled it a crisis. I hope when all is said and done, and the data points are counted (or extrapolated), we'll be looking at something not much more dangerous than the flu, which will calm everyone down.

Yea but the norovirus that takes down cruise ships doesnt necessarily originate from the ship or even from poor food handling practices. Anyone who boards the ship can spread it on surfaces, hence the constant wiping down of everything and the perpetual “wash your hands” psas on board.

Fwiw... the last cruise I went on didn't allow passengers to come into contact with any food at the buffet. Staff had to plate everything for you. Plus they had staff posted at all entrances to food service areas and the kid areas making everybody wash or sanitize their hands before entry (shouldn't be necessary, but people are ing nasty).

Wipe the floor with a bleach wipe AFTER a housekeeper cleans a hospital room, then look at the wipe.

Required to kill Cdiff on surfaces - so it quite literally does help for .

Point is... it doesn't have to be bleach, any wipe can be used, the floors are filthy even after being cleaned.
