If Camby can stay healthy, then maybe. But he's already missed quite a bit of time.

Camby's missed too many games. Artest too. I agree with Sequ... The voters will be lazy and give it to Wallace again.
Of course, I remember thinking Wallace got overlooked one year they gave the lazy vote to Mutumbo so maybe he's due.
It's Chris Bosh, dumbass. It doesn't matter who he plays for.
I know you are a Bowen hate train lately, but get off. You are becoming too annoying.
well its a pity he will be snubbed again this year
Bosh is almost 5 inches taller than him.Toronto..................
Hes also a freakin all star.
Grow a brain shrimpdork.
becoming?You are becoming too annoying.
That would mean, he wasn't before.
Bowen is not a DPOY candidate.
No stats....
Defend that.
How is he not a candidate? He was second in the DPOY voting last year. So he's a candidate.
No stats?
How about Vince clitbrain Carter going o fer with a couple turnovers in the Spurs last meeting.
Hows that for stats for brains.
Use a spell-checker; that's P-S-Y-C-H-O.
HTH,
bw
PS- It's not even the AS break, but Bowen seems to making a strong case so far.
Vince Carter averages 35 a game against SA. What were you saying?
Look at his stats in the 4th quarter when the Spurs won.
Come again short .
Steve Kerr says
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_yl...yhoo&type=lgns
Defensive Player of the First Half
Bruce Bowen – It's time Bowen won this award, isn't it? His tenacious perimeter defense has frustrated opposing players for years, and it is a key to the Spurs' defensive system. His job is to funnel his man to the baseline and into the waiting arms of Tim Duncan and company. Bowen does much more than that. He is like a shutdown cornerback in football who takes one side of the field away. If you are trying to slow down a hot perimeter player, there is no better choice for a defender than Bowen.
And that's the bottom line cause Steve Kerr said so
Bowen has always been the best spur this season.
ive heard a lot of people saying that AK - 47 will get it if he stays healthy.
''And that's the bottom line cause Steve Kerr said so''. He's not the only one saying it, have heard some announcers in other games (ESPN,TNT,NBATV- not just the local channels) calling Bowen a 'premier defensive specialist and contender for defensive player of the year"". Or did I dream it??
I, frankly, thought last night's game made a very strong case for Timmy being DPOY...114 pts. by the Raptors in regulation??? 25 points MORE than the Spurs typically give up!
Bowen "D" is strong on the Perimeter; but Duncan affects the WHOLE game of the opposing squad.
Agreed. Bowen might be the BEST defender (in terms of overall skills, versatility, etc.) in the league but I think for the Spurs, Duncan is the more important defender. The Raptors shot something like 55% in regulation and seemed to be able to get to the rim at will in the 4th. They also outrebounded the Spurs by a significant margin, and going into that game they were the 3rd worst rebounding team in the league.
This is a good point, however, the Spurs have a very system-based defense predicated on having the perimeter guys funnel shooters to the baseline. Without a big guy waiting to meet them, the system falls apart, so it's not surprising they have trouble dealing with the loss of that cog.
On the other hand, you remember what happened to the Spurs the last time Bruce went out with an injury a few years ago? I think they went something like 8-8.
top 5 candidates
ben wallace
bruce bowen
andrei kirilenko
marcus camby
ron artest
I think bowen will finally win it. i think ben and kirilenko could take it as well though.
engrave it...
The guy defends 5 players at once.
