Defensive Player of the Year 2005-2006
Let's hope. It's overdue and well deserved.
The sad thing is, you know he won't get it...![]()
lets get the mob to call a hit on artest and wallace, then bowen has it for sure.
another player Bowened
fo sure.
Bown deserves as much as any player in the league.
Also I think TD deserves one![]()
Bowen is shutting down some of the best players in the League! Who said he was done?
Dirk Nowitzki makes me ashamed to be German. Bowen gives up five inches to this clown and still holds him to 3-of-13. What a pussy.
..........Marcus Camby........
That Camby blocks shots and grabs rebounds doesn't make him the best defensive player in the NBA. But, of course, the media who vote on that award don't bother with actually looking at the unmeasurables -- blocks and rebounds always carry the day.
Bowen has been the best man-to-man defender in the NBA for several years, but there aren't many stats for that and without stats, the media is lost.
you never know![]()
Exactly. Bowen is obviously a monster as a defender, but without those stats, it will be very difficult for him to ever receive the accolades he deserves. It's not fair at all........but people better get used to it.

the best is sometimes not good enough for them folks out yonder (east coast)
that picture of bowen looks weird for some reason.
Bump.
I hope everyone caught that clutch play by Bowen in the OT where, with the shot clock winding down, he cut across the lane, took the feed from TD and hit a gigantic teardrop. Would anyone have ever thought they'd see that play from Bruce three years ago?
Some more food for thought:
2005-2006 stats (*=career best, +=second-career best)
MPG 34.4*, PPG 8.1+, RPG 3.4+, APG 1.7*, TO/G 0.6*, FGP 46.4+, FTP 50.0, 3PP 50.8*
34 years old and still improving every year.
And his defense hasn't gone down a notch, despite the occasional wrong-headed rambling that goes on in here. Remember, all last year we heard the same complaints about Bruce's defense waning down. Wonder what Chauncey and Rip would have to say about that.
There's never gonna be a Church of Bruce, nor should there ever be one (he wouldn't want it, and the people who appreciate his game know it's not about the individual). But at least a little props for the one Spur who's worked harder to prepare himself than maybe anyone who's ever worn the silver and black.

Bruce for SA Mayor!!
If Bowen did not get it that year that Artest won it, he never will. That was by far the best season he will ever have.
Maybe if Pop had undermined the voting norm by giving the media "bogus unsubstantiated" stats (Pop's words) they would have looked more favorable towards Bowen. But if he gets it this year it will be for the wrong reasons (reputation) instead of the right reasons (results).
Bruce Bowen will always be the in my eyes, and he doesn't need that lame ass award to prove it either.
Pretty amazing that he is averaging a career high in minutes considering the Finley addition. I wonder if that will continue.
I've always kind of wondered what kind of impact the pissing and moaning of such big names as Wince Carter and Ray Allen have on his status. Would the voters be more inclined to say, "Well these guys are great scorers so he must be getting away with murder if he's shutting them down like no else can." Or would they think, "If this guy is this far in their heads he must be something special."
I think this could be Bruce's best shot this year. With Flip running the show in Detroit they're becoming known more their O than their D, so that hurts Big Ben's chances. I don't see how anyone can vote to give Artest any award this year with the baggery he's pulling. Camby might be the frontrunner, but if he gets hurt, as he seems to often enough, then Bruce has got to be a clear cut favorite. Then again, it wouldn't be the first time the media's let me down.
Artest still pulled the award with a fair amount of baggery a couple years ago
Artest didn't "win" the le that year. His coach's pathetic campaigning for him is what got it for him.
pathetic yes, but it worked
I think what really gets my goat is that looking at video of what Artest and Bowen do while guarding a guy is very similar in terms of the physicality and contact. But Bowen gets labeled "dirty" while Artest is known as "physical."
It's cuz he's more marketable, or at least he was.
"Tru Warrier" hahahahha
