That doesn't mean that i think the 360 is going to turn out like the dreamcast either. Its just pointing out that its not a race and its usually best to bide your time to decide which one your getting...
if your only getting one.
Sorry AGF, but I have to reply:
Dreamcast: 1999
PS2: 2000

I'm not that patient though![]()
I don't know what my problem is, but I HAVE to have each console on launch day.![]()
I have played X-Box, games I've played were both the Halos, Doom 3, Splinter Cell Chaos theory. All at my friends house though. I'd like to try Quake 4 whether it be on the PC or 360.
Truce then. To each his own. I think the only PC game I've ever played was the Sims.Damn that game was addicting. If possible for you, I'd pick up a 360 just to kill time till the PS3 comes out.
side note: The new Metal Gear and Killzone for PS3 looks good, prerendered or not.![]()
Yeah, and the fact remains, the Dreamcast flopped because it had jack for games.Sorry AGF, but I have to reply:
Dreamcast: 1999

You can't say the same about PS vs. Xbox, outside of some of that flaming gay anime for the PS lineup.
Dreamcast was a victim of publishers like EA who were deep up sony's ass. Other publishers followed the lead of the largest publisher(pussies). Sega managed to put out a great lineup of games but it did not have the bank to sustain the dreamcast. It took online cosole gaming to a whole new level. It took sony a couple of years to even attempt their hand at it. Unfortunately consoles live and die by the general gaming public and great systems and games are often overlooked ...much like bandwagoning. It comes down to hype.
If EA were so sure of Madden being a great engine they would invest the money they paid for exclusivity to make the next great madden. However those madden lovers have only visual updates to look forward to in the coming few years. Much like when Madden on the original playstation had the next gen public to itself. Madden 94-99 were the dregs of football. But when Sega and Visual Concepts came in with NFL2k it sent ea a message that attractive crap is still crap.
I'm all over the place here. Dreamcast was so very underappreciated.
I do wish I had a choice when it came to NFL games this year. But since the only other football game out there besides Madden is Blitz:The League, I guess I'll have to stay with Madden. I hate that exclusive crap, because compe ion breeds innovation.
I thought Dreamcast was great, but great games were rare. I sure loved Chu Chu Rocket online though!![]()
The biggest culprit is not EA, more like SQUAREENIX, without their final fantasy series catered for the PS machine, sony will be phase out like the dreamcast. The only reason sony has done well today is because of sqaureenix.
I was online from Day One(that it was offered). That made most games doubly fun. I spent hundreds of hours playing Phantasy Star Online. The 2k series on their own made the DC a must have. Add to that quake 3 and unreal tournament for the fps fans. RPG's were covered with Grandia 2 and Skies of Arcadia, cutting edge/niche games such as Samba di Amigo and Seaman, racing games such as metropolis street racer(precursor to Project Gotham). It covered the gamut of all genres.
Unfortunately I don't see RPG's as being that big a horse in console's gaming stables. But I don't disagree that it would have brought in a huge segment of gamers. I think because of Sega's compe ion in the software arena, many publishers would cut off their nose to spite their face in not publishing for the DC. It was clearly a console which for a year was well ahead of it's compe ion, it was easy to program for and had at the time a record breaking launch. There was a fanbase and money to be made off the DC but those publishers which chose not to release games for it did it no favor.
Anyway i be gettin a the revolution when it comes outmore oldschool games
mario kart rocks me jocks
Hopefully a better controller comes out for it. I can't imagine playing Super Mario Bros. with a f'in remote control in one hand and a joystick in the other.![]()
I guess MS is ready for either format!
Xbox 360 to go Blu-Ray?!?!
Xbox community site Xbox Circle reports that in a recent interview with Japanese website ITmedia, Peter Moore admits that the Xbox 360 could see an add-on Blu-Ray drive for movie playback, should the Blu-Ray standard win the DVD format wars. Although HD-DVD is Microsoft's preferred DVD format, Moore says the fact that Xbox 360 would use an external next-gen DVD drive allows them to adapt to whichever standard wins out in the end. And by the same logic, Moore says that the PlayStation 3's built-in Blu-Ray drive could limit Sony's possibilities when and/or if HD-DVD becomes the predominant standard. Finally, Moore says Microsoft is firm on the decision that (possible) future iterations Xbox 360 will not ship with a built-in HD-DVD drive.
PS3 to be $500+?!?!
$500 for the PlayStation 3? Developers and analysts are thinking just that. In an recent article, CNN Money's Chris Morris talked to several different people about the possibility of a $500 price point for Sony's next-gen console, and there was plenty to be said.
P.J. McNealy from American Technology Research stated that the $499 would be "more likely" than a $399 price point, however, Sony calls such claims "speculation." The reasoning for this comes from the existence of the Blu-Ray drive in the PS3, and as Morris points out, "Pioneer last week at the Consumer Electronics Show unveiled a standalone Blu-Ray player for $1,800."
While there's a profit margin built into the price of the Pioneer player, there's plenty of other technology required for a PS3 that's helping raise the price. Hard drives, Cell processors, and nVidia graphics chips aren't exactly the cheapest ways to construct a system.
Analysts don't stand alone in their belief of the $500 price point, either. Unnamed developers in the article expect Sony's new console to cost gamers 50,000 pretty pennies. Though there was no clear consensus on the price between the developers Morris spoke to, they were expecting it to cost anywhere from $399 to $700.
While Sony has yet to correct anyone, the actual price is still a mystery. We should know everything no later than May at E3, though, and the Japanese price will more than likely be revealed before then. Until that time, though, your guess is as good as our guesswork.
There was only one Final Fantasy game for the PS2 and it kinda sucked. Only 1 worthwile one to get for the PSX.
what are you one about.
FFX, FFX-2, FFXXI
but yes only one was a trad FF and that was 10 which IMO was still good.
FFX-2 and FFXI (which admittedly I never played) didnt really do it for me.
As for $500US fopr the PS3 thats a bit of a rip.
Making it $700AU on release (which is what the PS2 was at)
Never the less the price tends to drop pretty quickly but I;m a firm believer in waiting it out to see what the best options were. I had an N64 before my PS2 so I have been known to jump ship...
We still haven't got the 360 yet either so we still got quite a wait.
do you have a preorder and still haven't gotten it?
FFX was mediocre, FFX-2 was a game targeted for 12 year old girls. FFXI sucked major balls here and in Japan. I don't really care what people s
danyo you can preorder but its not released till around march.
when did you preorder? waiting until March for a 360 is a little crazy.![]()
Yeah, I got lucky and found one at Walmart. Initially, I was worried about the lack of quality release les for the 360, but I have been impressed with the four or five games that I have played so far.
As much as I have been impressed by the 360, I can't even imagine how great the graphics will be on the PS3.
I don't expect the PS3 to "blow me away", because of the hype around the PS2. I was promised "Toy Story like" graphics damnit!![]()
Now I just think of the new consoles basically as upgrades to my current console. I lied to myself by telling myself that the 360 will just improve the jaggies and "clean everything up" a little bit. So now when I play NBA2K6, it's much much more than I expected.![]()
I live in Australia and the release date isnt until march. We dont get the product until later in most cases and in this case much later. I haven't preordered one as I dont believe in buying consoles straight out I wait for a price drop.
